For an audition next week for an 80's musical I need to sing 16 bars of a modern pop or rock song. And no Britney Spears.

I don't know any.
I mean, when I looked some up I recognized them, but I don't like them--I was told to look up Madonna and I also thought of Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne, but nothing seemed like it'd work.

If anyone has any suggestions that'd be wonderful because I'm a geek and I only listen to show tunes, lol

Hello neighbor, may I inquire as to what theater you're auditioning for? For a few theaters, I know directors or have a decent feel for what kind of music they like or hate. 'Course, not for all theaters, but for a few. I may be able to assist! : )

^thanks, but I doubt you'd know it. It's a small mormon group (well, most of the people are but it technecally has no relation with religion--but I have a theory that I got into Pirates of Penzance cause they thought I was mormon,lol) They don't actually have a theatre building. But I've done a show with them before and the music director is my voice instructor, so I think I'll be okay as far as that.
I will take advantage of your help in later auditions though, lol
