Miss Saigon Chicago NW Suburban Premiere opens!

"Miss Saigon" to be performed by Up & Coming Theatre Company

Up & Coming Theatre Company (UAC) proudly presents
the Northwest Suburban Chicago premiere of “Miss Saigon.” In “Miss Saigon,”
Alain Boublil and Claude-Michael Schönberg (the creators of “Les Misérables”)
bring Puccini's “Madame Butterfly” to the modern world in a moving testament to the
human spirit and a scathing indictment of the tragedies of war. In the turmoil of the
Vietnam War, an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl fall in love, only to be
separated during the fall of Saigon. Boublil and Schönberg’s latest musical, “The
Pirate Queen” will premiere this fall in Chicago.
Up and Coming Theatre was established in 1992 and premiered it’s first
production, “A Chorus Line,” in 1993. A non-profit theatre company, UAC targets
showcasing new professional talent as well as donating proceeds to select
local charities. Previous productions include: “42nd Street,” "West Side Story,”
“Evita," "Chess,” "Annie," “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” and "Oklahoma!” Past
charities include: Sav A Pet, Palatine Senior Citizens Council, HIVCO, Season
of Concern, and The Little City Foundation.
UAC’s production of “Miss Saigon” is directed by Jorge Bermudez and Wil
Kight, who played the role of Baby John in the ‘97-’98 national tour of “West Side
Story.” The show is choreographed by Jennifer Weidman, with music direction by
Kathy Tahiri. The cast features local resident Allison Orobia, a performer with the
Grant Park Symphony Chorus, as Kim, the young, naive, but strong-willed
Vietnamese Orphan. Chicago resident Brian Sherwinski will play the role of The
Engineer. He has previously won an award for Outstanding Performance Male Lead
with the Indiana Community Theatre League. The role of Christopher Scott will be
played by McHenry resident Corey Keane, having recently won first place for best
male vocalist in the Regional Finals of the KWC-USA World Karaoke
Championship. Playing the role of John, is Eddy Svejda, who has performed on
“Good Morning America”. The UAC ensemble of Miss Saigon includes Karen
Sison who previously played the role of Kim in the Philippines; David Gall, a
performer in the National tour of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Willow
Schneider, recently seen performing at the Taste of Chicago Festival.
