Mimi And Fifi-Exposed!lol. I've finally got a good handle on what Mimi and Fifi do in Beauty and the Beast. (im playing Mimi)
They say lines in the "Care for a blanket, monsieur?" part and in the "Mrs. Potts! Mrs. Potts! There is a girl in the castle!" parts,
they sing the"ooo, ooo-oo-oooo, ooo-ooo-oooo, WAAAAHHHH" part during Be our Guest
They tango with Lumiere
They sing the "Open the shutters and let in some air" solo in Human Again
They kill off the Silly Girls (YES!!!!!!)
and i know they have lines elsewhere Im just not sure where. So basically, Babette Mimi and Fifi are the "enchanted equivalent" to The Silly Girls.

They kill the silly girls? NOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But Babs isn't supposed to be like a Silly Girl!

The silly girls WISH they were as hot as Babs.

So what you're basically saying is...Mimi and Fifi steal all of Babette's lines?
I feel bad for whoever is playing Babs in your production.

aint that the truth
and NO They do NOT steal all of Babette's lines. They are unique characters with seperate lines, who DO however take one or two of babette's lines, nothing drastic. I take a little offense that you seem to be implying that Mimi and Fifi are Babette wannabees. Thats not fair, because (no offense meant here) you probably dont know alot about Mimi and Fifi.
Im not trying to start trouble here, just stating my opinion.

^ Well the thing is Mimi and Fifi are not in the orginal script and that upsets people.

Exactly.
Babette dosen't have a whole lot of lines to begin with, in fact, I don't remember a whole lot of other lines said by her other than those few.
And how am I supposed to "know" who Mimi and Fifi are if your director wrote them in him/herself!
I'm not trying to bash your production or your role or anything, but it can't be denied that Mimi and Fifi are taking a chunk of Babettes material.

Somehow I don't think an audience will get worked up about a couple extra characters.
It's not as if they took Belle out of the production and replaced her with an old granny.

in my humble opinion..
the average audience member is not a musical master or much less a member of MdN. they probably wouldn't notice if two more feather dusters were added and took a few of Babs' lines.. most audience members are only there for Belle and Prince/Beast and don't really appreciate the minor characters as much as they should, so they won't think twice about Mimi and Fifi.

As much as it pains me to hear the horrible truth that most audience members are there for the leads and thats it (and that is very very true. Wrongfully so, but true) I have to agree with you. Unless it was an MdN convention where the musical production was taking place, no one is going to care/notice (other than Babette, of course) that some of Babette's lines were transplanted over to Mimi and Fifi.

EDIT: nvm... double-post

I don't think Babs has any other lines, besides:
-The "argument" in Act I with Lumiere (when they talk about the different ppl in the castle that each of them have "dated")
-The part where her hands go all feathery
-The finale
Other than that, it appears that Mimi and Fifi pretty much... destroy her.

It's not the fact that the AUDIENCE will notice two new characters were added, it's the fact that your director is basically screwing over your Babette! If I was the girl cast as Babette I'd be PISSED.

Actually the 7th grader playing Babette is very gracious, not to mention talented, and truly doesnt mind not having a few lines taken from her. She will, undoubtedly, shine as bright, if not brighter, than Mimi and Fifi based on her character acting skills.

I'm currently playing Babette in my production, and I'm also the understudy for Belle. But I know that if some of my lines were to be given to two other characters much like myself, I would be pretty upset. Especially the tango! That is my shining moment in the musical!
Obviously, all three of you were good enough to play the role and your director had a hard time deciding, otherwise he/she wouldn't have added two other characters just like Babs.
Eh. I prefer just one feather duster. But I'm sure your role will be tons of fun, regardless of what others think.

Thanks. Yeah, the way I see it, no one on MdN is going to see the performance (except a few random friends who surf the site) so although I quite honor your opinions, in the end it doesnt matter.
By the way, a little totally awesome tidbit of info on my performance:
Gaston, when he dies, is going to fly through a stained glass window of real breakaway glass! It's going to be so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your Gaston's death is rocking awesome. We had no room to safely kill him, so we reworked it to have the Beast throw Gaston down the stairs to the stage where the gargoyle would come out of the dungeon and drag poor dead Gaston off.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Although your Babette may be quite willing (the odd 1 or 2 lines are okay.) I still don't think it's fair on her. Babette in comparison to the other characters is quite a small role - my personal opinion is that The Silly Girls have much more to do than Babette. More than one feather duster kinda ruins it for me (don't mean to offend!) BUT each to their own, every director / production is different I suppose!

pish123c

Oh you know what else I just thought of?
Having more than one feather duster kind of suggests that Lumiere is in a polygamous relationship. Not exactly classic Disney, now is it?

Hmm I didn't think of that! I watched one weird documentry on poly marriages - freaked me out tons!

The girl obviously knew about these extra characters, if she didn't like it she would quit or not even bothered to audition for Babs.

If you just started rehearsals he should be fine by the time the show opens...

Im not so sure...he REALLY broke his arm. Like, not just a fracture. like a KRRR-AACCKK kind break. He's actually suing the kid who did it to him (it was in school, infront of teachers and all. This kid slammed him into a locker and then back down onto the floor FROM HIS ANKLES)
i feel so bad for our poor LeFou
|
ConverseSneaker

Poor Lefou....Well, if the show comes and he's still in the cast(broken arm cast, not people in the show cast), you could always try to work it in, like Lefou is so clumsy, he constantly hurts himself or Gaston beat him up or something.

That sucks! What was the motivation?

Well I think that the kid who did it to him thought it was all a joke....but the kid who did it to him is a trouble maker. He brought a gun to school once. So there could be some bullying involved.

Poor kid - I hope he gets better. In my opinion the child who did that to him should be suspended or expelled from school if he brought a gun.

If that was my school he would have been expelled on the same morning he was caught. My school is strict.

Actually, the kid who did it to our poor LeFou did get suspended, he hasn't been to school yet. And btw, this is the 2nd broken arm in a week.
things are getting spooky!

StealerSo, I think the whole Mimi and Fifi are really weird. They take all of Babette's lines and honestly, if I saw the show, they would confuse the heck out of me because they aren't in the movie or anything.
As Babs, I have a teensy bit of a grudge against anyone who steals my lines :]

mimi and fifi are not like babette or the silly girls. hate to break it to ya, babette is the leader and she has a really high part. The silly girls come next. and then those wannabe cleaning tools, fifi and mimi. they are nothing like babette or the silly girls.

As this is a very old (and recently revived thread) I won't go deeply into it. I will say that it seems that the director added the parts to give more people roles with lines.
|
MusicalGal1194
|
Pappy, I agree with you entirely.
I think that broadwaybound was rather rude, I see that she's auditioning for Babette, well all power to her. But chew on this: suppose you don't get the role? What if your director casts you in a "wannabe" or made up part? I bet you would wish you hadn't gone around knocking "wannabe" parts then. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, hun, you haven't even gotten the part yet. Our show is over with now and I thouroughly enjoyed my role as Mimi. Calling them "wannabes" is just plain ignorant. Think about it, broadwaybound, one day you too will be unrightfully cast as a made up role. Would you want people telling you that your character was a wannabe? Didn't think so.
As stated previously, this is a old revived thread that I started a whiiiillleee back. There's no need to open back up an old wound.
***Also, I just noticed that broadwaybound96 is going around on the board stating that Mimi and Fifi are babette's wannabes. Seriously, stop. It's really rude to knock someone's part, any part. Cut it out, please. It's really starting to hurt/bug me. This whole "wannabe" thing is really immature.
