Middle ground?Am I the only one who thinks that some sort of combo of the 2001 Lacamoire tour arrangements and the 2000 Schachner Off-Bway revival arrangements can be made? And do well?

I still like the OOBC and the seventies...sowwy.

I'm aware of that. That was what I was first exposed to and I will always love that the best, but lately, the two newer CD's have been in rotation in my car, and I have to wonder...a lot of 2000 Off Bway Cast sounds good. And there's a good deal (aside from "Turn Back, O' Man") that sounds good on the 2001 National Tour Cast.
I have a strange feeling that a combo of them would be the best score for a Godspell with a modern theme. Anyone with me on this?

I own them as well, but they haven't found their way into my heart. I agree that they would work well for what you suggest, but my fear is that some of the songs that have been updated would turn off older audience members, much like the original songs did in the 70s. I think that's why I have stuck to the other - because if I'm not comfortable at 50 with the newer versions, I'm not sure my student's parents/grandparents would have been either. That would be my biggest concern about using the 2000/2001 versions.

I do agree. Actually, in my production, we are using the reggae "We Beseech Thee" and the disco "Light of the World". Our orchestrations resemble the OB production and the 2000 OB revival.

I agree with you in mixing it up.The problem is you need to get royalties for both. I think the original is great with the exception of WE Beseech Thee and Alas. I liked the geared up / up-to-date sound of the 2001 much better with the exception of Turn Back, which sounds like a sorid porno soundtrack from the 70s.

I can see how they would compliment each other well. Unfortunately, I still really dislike the 2001 orchestrations and much prefer the 2000 as it is (minus Light of the World. The original owns my heart there.)

Our "We Beseech Thee" (the original non-reggea one) stole the show - the audience loved it.
