Michael Jackson's "This Is It"

So the documentary of MJ's rehearsals for his tour was released today. Who's going to see it?

I have my tickets to go see it Saturday afternoon. I'm looking forward to it. I'm not really sure what to expect, but it will be interesting to be sure.

I'm not a fan of his... However "Man in the Mirror" is possibly in my list of ultimate songs, so if I doubt I'll see it.

I'd like to, but I'm not gonna be too annoyed if I don't.
The Very Angry Woman

I have no interest in it. I liked MJ when I was a kid around the time "Beat It" came out, but since then, I never really drank the kool-aid.

I'm not sure. I love MJ, but post-Thriller MJ isn't really my thing.
Beagle On Stage

I'm not interested in Michael Jackson, and the fact that he died and everyone else suddenly became a hardcore fan didn't change that.

From what I've heard they didn't get to the point of a full dress rehearsal and MJ was only singing at 50%-60% to save his voice.

I might see it if I can see it cheap.

If he hadn't died no one would give two hoots about it. Same goes for Heath Ledger for that matter.

Here's the thing, though ... if he hadn't died, there would be no "This Is It" movie. 'Cause he'd be on tour.
Considering how fast the tour sold out, I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that no one cared about Michael Jackson before he died ... but it's true, his fanbase has expanded.

Health Ledger's Joker was very hyped even BEFORE he died. I think his death contributed to the box office and maybe his Academy Award (only maybe)...but still. As I said, it was already hyped.

Ok, so I saw it this afternoon...

I really liked it. It's a shame that he passed before this tour went up because it would have been AMAZING. I can't believe that he could move like he was moving, considering the shape of his body and being 50 years old.

I would like liked to have seen more interviews with the crew or more of him interacting with everyone. IMO, those were some of the best scenes.

It was also obvious (to me anyways) that at some points, it was not his singing live, but a mix between him performing and past recordings of him. But even when it was him singing at 50-60% to save his voice, he was amazing.

Movie was slow at some points, but overall, very well done.

I recommend it to anyone with any interest in the man or his music. It was very well done and worth seeing it. It was great seeing it in theatres, but if you don't make it there to see it, definatley check out the DVD.

I'd like to see it simply because I like watching footage of rehearsals for a live show, almost any live show, particularly the dancers.

and it was more than likely gonna be a top notch show, regardless of my neutral feelings about MJ.

I saw it yesterday. Brock summed up my thoughts really well. I guess I'll also add that Michael's message he was going to aim for in the tour was definitely there in the movie. You could obviously tell he was holding back. He even said so at one point. Even when he was though, he was amazing.

If that's what you like, then you would LOVE it. And top notch doesnt begin to describe what this was going to be.

On an "almost" comical note. And slightly annoying at the time, but I can laugh now...there was this big black lady sitting next to me. The whole time, she kept saying her thoughts outloud. Her favorite (and mine as well!) was "Oh Michael...oh oh Michael....". At the very end where it said "Michael Jackson - King of Pop blah blah", she was like, "Good bye Michael. Good bye."

It was great! His marking was better than MOST people's full out.

And he was not mixed vocally with pre-recorded tracks, I am friends with one of the dancers, and said that was 100% him singing in the movie, and not from earlier audio's and studio clips.
Brock07

I'll take your word on that. It just sounded to me like was belting out quite a bit on several songs when he was alledgedly only singing at half force.

This just in:

This Is It now has an extended run in theatres. It should be around now through Thanksgiving, so now everyone has a larger window in which to see it!

But I think they can still do some magic on the sound boards to make MJ sound better to make up for his throttled back singing.
