mezzo showstopper songs appropriate for teenager

What would you sing if you were entering a competition for high school students and you were a mezzo (big belter) and needed to sing a song that is a guaranteed showstopper? But still appropriate for a teenager to sing?

I would definitely say "Shy" from Once Upon A Mattress

Also "Hold On" from The Secret Garden (Martha)
"I Know Things Now" from Into the Woods (Little Red)

Hope that helps.

Thoroughly modern millie has a bunch of great belt songs that are sure to get attention if done well Smile

Whenver i hear the word "belty" i always think of the song CABARET for no apparent reason. IDK if that's a good song lol. Hope I helped.

My impulse is to reply with "Always True To You" from Kiss Me Kate, but as a teenager and out of context, it's certainly not appropriate! Therefore, I will second "Shy" and also suggest "Happily Ever After" from Once Upon A Mattress.

In my opinion there is no such thing as a guaranteed showstopper, but that's a separate issue.

If you are looking for something that will get you noticed, I would stay away from songs that are very overdone (particularly "Shy") as doing a song that people are likely to know increases the chance that they will notice if a small mistake as made but also because it will not be anything new.

There are lots of lesser known shows with great teenage roles.
