Medley

So, I'm goign to create a medley for a charity show next year and I want it to have contemporary brodway sounds and songs.

So what would be a some good songs from contemporary shows or contemporary sounding shows to look at to create this medley?
Damask and Dark

"The Money Song" from Avenue Q .....

Just kidding!

I'm not really sure what exactly you have to work with as far as ensemble, soloists, etc. go, but these songs came to mind:
"I Know Where I've Been" from Hairspray
"For Good" from Wicked
not as contemporary-sounding, but maybe "No One Is Alone" from Into the Woods

and some Rent songs:
"Seasons of Love"
the "No Day But Today" theme found in "Life Support" and "Finale B"
"Will I?"
maybe a bit of "I'll Cover You (Reprise)"

All these are more serious or sentimental in mood, but I'm assuming that's would be all right, seeing as it's a charity event. If you're going for more of a lighthearted-entertainment vibe, you might want to put some others in your medley. Good luck!

Not contemporary enough

Um, well I'm directing a cabaret this winter, and I'm doing a few medleys, but they're all for female vocalists (as my cabaret is a "DIVA" concert), but maybe just to get some juices flowing I'll mention them. One is entitled "The Mother Medley" and it includes:

1) Mama I'm a Big Girl Now (Hairspray)
2) If Momma Was Married (Gypsy)**
3) At the Ballet (A Chorus Line)**
4) How Did This All Begin? (Piece)
5) Mama Who Bore Me (Reprise) (Spring Awakening)

** Means might not be contemp. enough. But instead, possibly swap them for 1-2 other songs, including "The I Love You Song" from Spelling Bee (Which we're doing later in the show for the "Love" medley).

The other medley I mentioned, is "The Love Medley" and includes:

1) The I Love You Song (Spelling Bee)
2) Somethings Are Meant to Be (Little Women)
3) Still Hurting (L5Y)
4) Send in the Clowns (A Little Night Music)**
5) You Oughtta Be Here With Me (Big River)**
6) Raven (Brooklyn)
7) A New Life (Jekyll & Hyde)
Cool Gimme Gimme (Millie)

Like I said, I don't have a patent on either of these, so feel free to borrow, swap and steal Smile
