Meat piesOkay, Im always one who wants to know how to do things, so I've a question about the meat pies.
Whats good to use for meat pies? I mean, you can use real ones. What can you make them out of that wont like go bad or anything?

I always thought using those hostess pies (cherry, apple, blueberry, lemon....you know the ones) would work well. Just have your props master pick them up at a convenience store at the start of hell week. Have him/her buy enough for the entire week, and then at the start of each week of your run, have them buy new ones.
C'mon. Who hates Hostess? Not me.

We used the Hostess pies...cherry ones...I for one never took a bite as for some reason the thought of eating and singing during 'God That's Good' made me ill...something about the pies combined with intense heat from being under the stage lights...
We also had some non-practical pies that could be tossed around and played with by Lovette, Tobias and Sweeney.

I know what you mean. Just at home once we were eating those Marie Callender's pot pie things, and I kept singing "Worst Pies in London" while they were cooking, successfully putting everyone off their appetite...

Wouldn't Hostess fruit pies be too sticky? - They're all glazed. Well, then again, the meat pies are supposed to be!

We used bread. We made bread dough, broke it up into little half-moon pies and cooked 'em. Then we glazed (with clear spray paint) the ones for props, and people just pretended to eat them. We made some without glaze that we kept fresh to use for Lovett to give to Sweeney and Toby to actually eat.

the 5th Ave production in Seattle used stuffed nylons tied off like pies....... they also threw them out into the audience

Oh, I don't know, why not do it the practical way? I'm sure it would be fairly easy to rig up a lever for the chair. And we all know to put it three times through the grinder.
I'm kidding.
Maybe.

Little rolls or breads always work.
In the new broadway production, being so miniscule in setting and props, of course they use nothing.

We used upside-down yorkshire puddings [aka batter puddings if you're not sure what they are]. They worked eally well. We had fresh ones each day and could eat them easily on stage. Worked a treat.
