Martha audition songI'm auditioning for The Secret Garden at my high school in about a month and I'm going for the role of Martha. I'm 15 and have a good mezzo-soprano voice. I need an audition song. Any ideas? |

okay. but i have already looked at that thread. i'm trying to stay away from poto because it's overdone, and i don't want to do jekyll and hyde because my high school recently did that show.
So, looking at that thread, that leaves "As We Stumble Along" from the Drowsy Chaperone, or "As If We Never Said Goodbye" from Sunset Boulevard. I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas. |

Neither.
Martha is the motherly figure in this play, other than Lilly. My friend who was Martha in my production sang "Bali Hai" from South Pacific, which works, but I wouldn't suggest it. Do something more contemporary and definatley a ballad. PM me if you have any more questions. |

hmm... I'm not sure if this would be the best choice for Martha, but I think A Change in Me from BATB might work for her. |

I also have an audition for TSG in about a month and I need to have two contrasting songs. I am hoping for Martha as well and I have tried to find similar songs to her two main songs- Hold On and If I Had a Fine White Horse. Please tell me what you think of my ideas:
Hold On= Forgiveness (Jane Eyre) It has the haunting gothic theme of the show and it is also a slow balad with the same intent as Hold On. If I had a Fine White Horse= My Favorite Things (The Sound of Music) It just reminds me of Martha's song and I think it has the same intent- cheering up frightened children and I think the character relationship to the person they are singing to is about the same. The audition material says more classical sound, so I'm wondering if this might work. What do you think?? |

I was thinking Jane Eyre would be good...
have you had your audition yet? If so, how did it go? |
