I'm gonna say his old Yiddish granny knitted it for him when he was a youngin. and he thought it was the ugliest thing in the world, but now he appreciates it for all the love and effort she put into it whilst she was alive, plus its the warmest thing he owns. yeah...that's my two cents.

Being the starving artist that he is, it is safe to say that he has either had it since he was 12, or picked it up at the Salvation Army.
