Marcellus Audition- Suggested songs

I'm trying out for my high school's production of The Music Man and I would love it if I got the part of Marcellus. I'm a Junior, a tenor, and have background in both dance and comic staging. However, auditions are coming up and I have no idea what to sing. Since you guys LOVE The Music Man, are there any suggestions for Marcellus-ish songs? Thank you so much, guys!

i'm assuming that it has to be a song not from "the music man" (if not, by all means, sing "shipoopi"! Very Happy) so, i'd say "kansas city" from "oklahoma" might be good, it doesn't go as painfully high as marcellus does in the show but it has the same kind of attitude--or as you would say, it's a marcellus-ish kind of song, at least in my opinion. Razz however, i wouldn't recommend singing it with the southern accent. hehe.

thanks so much. i thought it would be easy trying to find a "marcellus-ish" song, but it actually is pretty hard! thanks for the suggestion, ill start looking at it right away

"Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat" from Guys and Dolls

ooh that's a good one too Very Happy

"Mama Says" from "Footloose" is good for Marcellis (I can't spell right now...)

I would suggest "I Am The Very Model of a Modern Major-General" from "Pirates of Penzance". It's a very fast song, and parts of Shipoopi are fast too. (It's actually what one of my friends used and he got the part because he showed he could tackle both range and up-tempo singing and humor...)

Thaanks for all of your ideas. I actually used the song from Oklahoma and it went very well.

A list went up and I am definitly in the cast, but no parts have been casted yet. There will be auditions for just the cast in January. I'll keep you posted and thanks for all of your help!

Which is why the duet towards the end of the show works (using those 2 songs)

Haha, I definitely remember how amazed I was when I realized that... It's one of those moments where everything clicks in your head and you're like, "Whoah..." Very Happy

Like when I realized that the ABC song and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" are sung to the same tune, too! Razz

Yes, now the world makes so much more sense, huh? gavroche511, Good luck! I hope you did well. The Music Man isn't at the top of the list of my favorite musicals, but "Shipoopi" is a fun song.

I'm still amazed...Just think...all those years of not knowing...

I'm sorry I don't have a song better than the ones suggested but I can't help but point out that that is a funny term ya made up: "Marcellus-ish" xD It's funny to say
