Male Roles in the Jr. Version

Could someone break down the male roles in the Jr. Version?

I wanna know how big each part is, who has a lot of dialogue, who has a lot of singing, etc.

Baker: Lead; being a lead, has plenty of dialogue
2 company songs
1 (very very short reprise) solo
2 duets

Cinderella's Prince: supporting; has a couple of scenes with little or no dialogue; 1 big scene, a scene in the finale
1 company song
1 duet

Jack: supporting; some dialogue
2 company songs
2 solos

Narrator: being the narrator, has quite a few lines but very little singing. Like 1 solo verse.

Rapunzel's prince: pretty much a cameo Like, 5 lines
1 duet
1 company song

Steward: cameo; about 2 lines and one random singing part that used to be Cinderella's mother's--also in finale

Wolf: 1 scene with dialogue
1 solo song
(sometimes the wolf is also cast as one of the princes.)

Cinderella's Father: 1 line.

I decided I'm gonna go for Jack with The Baker being another role I'd want.

I'm going to sing "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd (this was a suggestion made by my voice coach).

Any audition advice, anyone?

Ah ah. Careful. People forget, he has, yes, 3 lines! But seriously, it DOES make a difference. There's "The closer to the family, the closer to the wine" in First Midnight, there's "The carriage is waiting" in the Prologue, and also, the classic, "I always wanted a son" in the scene before Ever After. Just saying...

As I was just in this show, I will say the Baker is the largest male role, as he speaks the 2nd most out of any of the guys, and sings the most of any male roles as well. The story also revolves around him....so logically...

Jack is probably 3rd, or sometimes 2nd, as the Narrator can actually be a GIRL. It's been done quite a few times, so don't be surprised if it does in the one your in, with the Mysterious Man being a separate entity. If that's the case, then Jack is definitely the 2nd biggest role, and even if 3rd, Jack is really not that far from 2nd anyways. He's definitely the better role of the two (Narrator and him I mean) in my opinion as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much!

You do know this is the Jr. version, right?
Jman383

Yep, have the very script in my closet Smile

Once you add in Jack's singing and compare it to the Narrator and The Baker is he still 3rd?

Lottielou22's breakdown is basically right. Except they left out the Mysterious Man. Which is basically a cameo, MAYBE supporting in the junior version. He just sings in company songs if I remember correctly, does have dialogue in a few scenes. None of his "...when explained I'm nothing serious" lines are left in. Sad

And in the junior version, Cinderella's Father just says "The carriage is waiting!" None of those other lines mentioned are left in the junior version. We just had our Mysterious Man yell "The carriage is waiting!" from off-stage.

We had a girl for the Narrator. Ironically enough, we had a boy for Milky White.

AH!! I did forget the Mysterious Man!!

UPDATE: I'm not singing "Johanna" anymore. I've decided to go with "Not While I'm Around" instead.

hey,
i just did this show in the Junior script.
I was the Baker.
IT was a big role (obviously) and it has a lot of dialogue and one big song (IT TAKES TWO).

It was a great role.
