Make up?!

I'm in a high school production of Ragtime right now. I'm pretty skilled with make-up, and the director has put me in charge of make-up for this show. Can anyone give me a general run down of what is demanded with make-up/hair of each of the characters/groups of people? This would be very very appreciated! Thank you!

It's nothing really all that specific...most of the New Rochelle women wear hats, so they need to have updos that the hats will fit over. Foe the NR men, I think we just slicked their hair back or parted it and combed it down (they wore hats too).

This site has some examples of Edwardian hairstyles that might help
http://www.fashion-era.com/hair_hats_190015.htm

The Harlem women in my production wore hats too, so they had updos/hairstyles that allowed for that too.

The Immigrant women wore hats or headscarves...so again, hairstyles that worked with those.

Makeup-wise, I think we just did standard stage-makeup and I think the Harlem women used some red and orange eyeshadow (to match their outfits) and the Immigrant women used more blues and grays.

Hope this helps! I posted some pictures of my production earlier...take a look if you need some inspiration!

I did makeup for our production, and what I did with the immigrant women was have them in really neutral tones and such.

The real 'challenge' was Evelyn, we wanted her to be almost in "Harlot" style makeup, because that was how our director interpreted the character. So, we did really big blue & purple eyeshadow with lots of shimmer under her eyes. Then we gave her high cheekbones and red red lipstick.

I wish I had a picture, it was rather awesome.
