My local community theater is doing "The King and I" next summer (2008) and I was curious as to what the age range for Louis is.

I would also like to know what his personality is, how big of a part it is, and what people generally look for in someone auditioning for Louis.

When we did it, we were looking for a boy that appeared to be no more than 12 years old. It's not a big part, but you do get a duet with Anna and some stage time.

Is he usually cast as Child Ensemble too (in chorus with royal children)?

no. the role is too big. plus he has scenes in the classroom.

Louis generally needs to be like 10 or 11 years old. He has a duet with Anna and a good amount of lines, so i think he would be a good choice, depending on your age. He has to sing pretty high though, so you can't be too old!
