LOTR in TorontoThis isn't on Broadway or West End YET, so I'm posting this here. I saw it the 25th and it was very ...... the acting wasn't spectacular, though Gollum did a GREAT job, The music fit the play, though I don't think that there are going to be any hit songs from it, they were more about effect and mood than actually being good songs. They also arn't 'hummable', I only remember the tunes to two songs from act two. (there are 3 acts). It was good overall, an dI'm working on a full review. Has anyone else seen it?

This musical was in the works even before Peter Jackson had finished the first LotR movie. So basically, its been in the works for a while.

Although I'm not the biggest LOTR fan, I would love to see this. I have been worshipping Michael Therriault (Gollum) since I saw him as Bloom in the TO cast of The Producers.
This is an especially good season for TO theatre though, so I'm afraid it will still be at the bottom of my list.

Does anyone remember the vocal ranges for the female characters of the musical? I remember reading that both Galadriel and Eowyn were alto/mezzo but I didn't find anything on Arwen.

I saw it last week. My review in 30 seconds:
- The staging is indescribable. Many hydrolic lifts are used to creat cliffs and such. The whole stage rotates at certain points (Frodo will be singing right at you, and eventually, he's singing to the wall behind him). At one point, the entire stage lifted 15 feet into the air, and all you could see was a battle happening above you and the orchestra playing below.
- The costumes were good, the effects were great, the sets and set changes were amazing
- The music is not good. There's nothing catchy. Nothing you would be humming when going out of the theatre.
- In Act 2: They complete "Fellowship" then do ten minutes of "Two Towers." Then INTERMISSION. The Act 3 is "Return of the King"
- It'll go to Broadway and the West End, but it's too big to tour.
- I still have no idea what was going on, but the spectacle was great.

I liked the music, but it was more of a musical play than a musical. I'm sorry you didn't know what was going on. That was a big problem with the show, some unclearnss.... EXSPECIALLY in the climax.

For those that have seen the show, I want to know what musical theater actors do you think would be good in this show?

Your serious, right? Right now, I think maybe he might be good as Gandalf. I thought I throw out a name. Can anyone see Lea Salonga in any female role?
