Lost For Words..... Literally

So my best friend and I have been fighting and we pretty much are totally over. I mean she is my best frined, my rock, my whatever. She was there for every break up every award every show. Now tomorrow I have an audition, but my throat is sore and has a huge lump, my eyes are red, and i feel helpless. Should I go to the audition? And how should i deal with my throat?

Just so you know the audition is for Little Red Riding Hood from Into the Woods, I'm singing the song I Know Things Now (as per their request) andwe need to dance and do a monologue (that they will provide)

I'm freaking out. Will someone help me please?

Re: Lost For Words..... Literally

I've been in situations like this, I know how you feel. First things first - make sure you rest a lot! It's the top way to get better. With a sore throat, you can use hot tea. I know it's summer, but it DOES help, trust me. What works best for me is tea with honey. I once felt like you after I had a major break up with my boyfriend of a few months in December. I was crying all day in school and screaming and stuff=/. But that night, I had a "blast from the past" thing and I was supposed to sing "Sincerely". Strange thing is, I sounded fine for the show but afterwards I had major laryngitis=(.

I may not have the best advice but I have been in your position. Remember - rest, drink tea, and do NOT talk, yell, or sing. Don't even practice until you're sure you're fine. If you're not, it's okay to not go to the audition. Sometimes your throat can feel fine but singing can do great damage to your voice. FEEL BETTER!

i'm sorry about your friend. maybe things will be different when you both cool off? i lost a good friend and still think about him every day. don't let your pride get in the way of a good thing.

if you go to gnc, they should have that throat remedy stuff. i can't recall the name of it now, but someone on this board should.

Oooh a fellow little red wannabe!
I'm currently in the midst of auditions for her too.
Anyway, REST, REST, REST! It'll help. Like other people said, don't sing, don't yell, don't talk, don't scream. Drink some tea. It'll help.
listen to bwaybrunette, she has good advice Smile
CYTthespian

NEVER let a bad situation in your life keep you from auditioning for a part. you will regret it so, so much.

just pretend you're happy as can be - it's called acting Wink

and don't you DARE tell the director that you have a sore throat or that you're feeling under the weather. actors who make excuses are the WORST. they'll be able to tell if you're just not feeling well, so do not mention it.

cytthespian, you give good advice. if an auditioner EVER makes excuses for their performance, it is a terrible reflection on them. a director will be able to tell if you have a cold, you don't have to cough and sniffle and apologize for your "terrible" audition. do your best. that's all you can do.
