Shocked
what?

I didn't even know there was a LOTR musical! woah! Have YOU seen it? Is it any good?
Anno_Domini

It played in Toronto for a time before promptly closing, being reworked, and subsequently opening up in London, where it promptly closed once again. From what I've heard, the technical aspects of the show were wonderful, but the show itself sucked Orc balls.

You can NOT condense all three LOTR books into one 3-hour script and expect it to be successful. The End.

I heard that the major problem why it doesn't become successful, it's because musical fans think it's too long (3 and a half hours) and because Lord of the Rings fans think it's too short (too much big cut in the story).
Nobody is happy so how do you want it not become a flop?

Exactly. Like I said, I've never even heard of it until yesterday, but i can imagine how that would be a failure.
Mistress

It was quite spectacular in terms of technical stuff, but the story DID drag...but overall, I likes it when I saw it in TO....by the wasy, the LOTR musical was the biggest thing in Musical news for a while...I'm surprised you guyy didn't hear about it...or maybe it was only big news here in Toronto where it was being put on...
wicked_boy

I only heard about it when I was reading the Guinness World Records, for its being the most expensive musical.

BTW, I got the CR Monday. Most of the music if cool.

Maybe.

Now, now, Luc Very Happy lol

I have the recording. I love two of the songs: The Road Goes On and Now and For Always. Now and For Always, in my opinion, truly captures the essence of hobbits, and the story of Frodo and Sam.

I don't really remember any of the other songs, though.

The music really, really grows on you! I saw the show in previews, came out thinking that the music was nice but unmemorable... got the recording and it all will NOT go away!!! Especially "Wonder". And the bows music. I just wish they'd recorded the opening Hobbit dance music, ok not all of it because it grows over 10 minutes or so, but the final few minutes would have been nice to record... and it would have been interesting to record some of the dialogue where the recording only has the backing music. It's very much in the style of a film score, it's very interesting and unusual use of music in a show.

And it's closing for the nth production of OLIVER. grr.[/u]

What's the overall style of music? Classic showtune, rock, jazz, clasical or something like that.
Belle

hmm... good question! A lot of it's heavily folk influenced... Hobbits don't burst into song musical theatre-style, they sing one of their favourite old Hobbit songs. You can hear a fair bit of it on www.lotr.com (How on earth did no-one else already have that address?)
Colle

Folk would be a good way to describe the Hobbit songs. I would describe the Elves' songs as having a mixture of celtic and scandinavian influence.

Sometimes big companies ask for the domain-name. And then if the owner won't give it up they offer lots of money so that they can get the domain-name. I believe this happened with harrypotter.com

It's such a shame this is closing in London. I loved it, and the music is really inspirational... it's the only way I can describe it! It has almost a spiritual quality about it =D

I saw it in September, and while I'm not so into the whole "Lord of the Rings" thing, I thought that it was enjoyable. It was a spectacle, to say the least. I was mostly excited to see Laura Michelle Kelly as Galadriel Smile
