Lord help me...... I'm auditioning for a professional children's theater company. What in the world kind of monologue do I prepare for this audition? A poem by Dr. Seuss???? (I need 2 monos by the way, any help is appreciated!) The audition is in 6 days (and I'm in tech week for The Life) so any help is INSANELY appreciated. If I can't find some good monologues ASAP, I'm not even gonna try go to this thing... |

Re: Lord help me...
LOL! Actually, anything comedic, as long as it has no swearing works fine... HINT... *Take a look at "Knock Knock* by Jules Pfiefer... OR you could even use the tropical fish monologue from Bad Habits, and say "Who Cares?!" instead of "Who gives a crap?!" |

Re: Lord help me...
My last acting teacher loved Jules Pfeifer - so I think I might actually have some stuff photocopied from Jules Pfeifer in my collection of monologues filed away for future use... thanks for the suggestion! And thanks for the tropical fish monologue suggestion as well. I'll look at that stuff tomorrow morning (since I won't be home until 1AM tonight...) So you're thinking I should just use some very G-rated monologues that are still intended for adults and not use monologues from a kids show or monologues orignally done by kids? |

yes definitely. kid friendly but appropriate to your age. keep it bubbly and light. |

Generally, children's plays are crap, material-wise. It's best to still use something funny and G-Rated that is from an "adult" play, but it still shows your spunk....

What about "There was an old woman who swallowed a fly"

I suggest you check out Grimms Tales and More Grimms Tales for suitable material.
Also: Alice in Wonderland The emperor's new clothes Aladdin A Christmas Carol Jack and the Beanstalk Roald Dahl - especially The Witches ...and check out this very useful website where you can read scripts for free: http://www.geocities.com/pocolocoplayers/child.html |

does it have to be a monologue, or can you tell them a story? liek can you tell them the story of goldilocks, for example?

I wouldn't necessarily try to do TWO new monologues. You're not AUDITIONING for children, so if one of your monologues is more adult its okay. |
