legit ballads for younger person?

HI
I am auditioning for a theatre workshop. They asked for 2 contrasting pieces.
I have lots of upbeat/ belts!
For the second piece they asked for a legit /ballad thats age appropriate.
I was thinking of Good Night My Someone. Its in Jazzy's list, but I guess its not considered a ballad.

thanks Very Happy

Goodnight My Someone is a good one for a slower/ballad type songs. You could also do something from Secret Garden, and even more ballad-like Disney songs would be fun (such as "Refection" from Mulan or "Colors of the Wind" from Pocohontas).

Hope you find something! Very Happy

So are all those considered legit?

i would do something like "Hey, There!" from The Pajama Game, "Send in the Clowns" from A Little Night Music, or "I Loved You Once in Silence" from Camelot

send in the clowns? are u mad? first of all its sung by an old woman, its also vastly overdone.

^^Ah, this is true...

Anything from older musicals- like The Music Man or some Rogers and Hammerstein.
"Goodnight my Someone" is a good choice. I DO think it is a ballad, it's certainly not up-tempo. It depends on if you do the whole song or just the first bit. The middle section usually goes a little faster than the rest.
"If I Loved You" from Carousel may also work.
"Legit" just means a more classical sounding voice instead of modern, pop, or belty.
Are you a soprano?
You could also do "I'll Know" or "I've never been in Love before" from Guys and Dolls.
Break a leg!

Thank you, Everyone

Many thanks for your suggestions and support!
I think I will do Good Night My Someone. (yes, I am a soprano)
The other songs suggested I will look into learning for my repotoire.
Anyways, thanks to all. Very Happy

It's funny, I always have difficulty finding upbeats...ballads seem to be in abundance. Smile

For future reference, I would acquaint myself with Tuptim's songs from King and I (in particular I think "I Have Dreamed" out of context would be a very good young teen song). Also Luisa's songs from The Fantasticks--while they may be considered overdone they are a part of the canon you should be familiar with. Think about roles you could feasibly play within the next five years of your life, and go from there. Have fun!

I've just started voice lessons, and I'm younger, so my (small) rep is basically all legit ballads...

Anyone can whistle from <--
Castle on a Cloud from Les Mis
A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes from Disney's Cinderella
I'll Know from Guys and Dolls (which is a GREAT choice!)
Far From the Home I Love from fiddler

and the only uptempo i've done that was suitable was Matchmaker....

I also have a lot of trouble finding uptempos that are suitable for my voice and age...

How about "Whistle Down the Wind" from Lloyd-Webbers Whistle down the Wind

Um..the girl is 13- you always need to sing age appropraite material.

I think Hey, There! would still work...there is a reprise of it sung by Babe in the show in the second act after they temporarily break up...

What about "How are Things in Glocca Morra" or "Look to the Rainbow" from Finian's Rainbow?

This link has proven invaluable to me:

I don't know which of them specifically are appropriate for a 13 year old, though. Sorry. Sad
