London Revival - My reviewI saw the matinee of Little Shop of Horrors on Wednesday. It was FANTASTIC! Here is a mini review!
Sheridan Smith as Audrey was wonderful, she could act, sing, had hilarious comic timing and her emotional rendition of Somewhere That's Green was very moving. ONE of the leading ladies of this season and I hope we see a lot more of her in musical theatre…Although she was a member of the National Youth Music Theatre where she played Tallulah in Bugsy Malone WHERE she was spotted for 2 Pints of Lager. (Phew long explanation!)
Paul Keating as Seymour was also very good, he was so cute to look at and I loved the way his trousers were made really short so you could see his socks pulled up!!!! At times he jumped about the stage a bit too much but I think it was probably to make his movements look really geeky!
Alistair McGowan as Orin...HILARIOUS and his quick changes from the customers were very impressive. A good move from the casting people to chose an impressionist.
My favourite thing about the production had to be the chavvy Crystal, Chiffon and Ronette. They blended well together with harmonies, facial expressions were fantastic, costumes were really creative (the earrings were so simple yet effective) As soon as they came onto the stage singing the theme, I knew this was going to be a good production. Every single time they were in a scene it was very hard not to look at them, they stole the show for me personally!
The staging was also very effective. There was a rotating stage for the shop and the exterior was used for Skid Row. There was also another pull out stage for the Dentists. The plant was really well done, I can't put into words how much I was impressed by the movements / puppetry!
I actually met the cast members who were all so lovely! I got my programme signed and also had some photos with them! (Although Alistair McGowan was really unfriendly!)
If you haven't seen LSOH and you are in London. GO SEE IT!!!
