Logos for Sondheim shows

I just got the double disc recording of the Sondheim Tonight concert with Michael Ball and Maria Friedman. The actual concert is imo much better than it's reputation, but I'm struck by how awful the logo is. A strangely shaped American flag ends in a set of piano keys. It's so tacky.

As far as I know, few Sondheim shows have had the sort of cleanly shaped, iconic DeWynter's logos many (particularly West End based) shows have had.

Which are in you opinion the best and worst logos for Sondheim shows?

My favourites are: Bounce, Sunday in the Park with George (original), and Sweeney Todd (original)

Least favourite: Into the Woods (original & revival)

I don't really have a huge problem with any of them, but if I had to choose, the Sweeney Todd revival logo kind of bugs me. It looks too...Animated.

Well, I like the concept of the original Into the Woods, I just don't like how it was drawn and (in the case of the tour,) I don't like the background colours.

Not only the best Sondheim poster are but probably the best for any musical..

Follies..original broadway.

I thought the Follies thing looked too much like the Godspell logo... (or is it the Godspell logo that looks too much like the Follies logo?)

My pick would probably be the original "Assassins" logo.

I've always thought the same thing.

no way! the folliesl ogo is a masterpice? don't you know how it came about?

Hal Prince saw a picture of Gloria Swanson in full regalia standing in he ruins of a recently torn down movie palace. he was struck by its poigniancy and its relevance and had the artist design a poster based on that image. hence the 1920s show girl with the crumbling cracked stone fce.
its chilling!

Oh I'm not saying it isn't a good logo! I just think the Follies and Godspell logos look very very similar.

I think it was the Godpell logo that was inspired by the Follies logo. It is a section on the topic in the Everything Was Possible book, I think.

And the Gloria Swanson picture doesn't look like the Follies logo at all, I think it only provided an athmosphere that was evoked.
Sweeney Hyde

I love the 2005 Sweeney Revival poster...as well as the original of course...I think that the original is perfectly over the top...perfect for the OBC...I think the revival one is more serious...and I think it fit it's production perfectly.

I also love the original Assassins, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park with George, and Follies art.

I like the revival art for Company (2006) better than the original art.
