If My Fair Lady and Hello Dolly (the latter of which I also loathe) is "relatively old," that means CATS, while loathable, is not.

I agree with some of your list, though.

The blue ones don't really fit. The blue ones you probably don't like because they suck. Grease has almost no intellectual material...the plot inspires no thought and the music is lacking in any depth. Cats doesn't even have a real plot.

The others are things that one really should appriciate (though I have trouble even talking about annie). The classics are important to an appriciation of musical theatre...and while you might not like certain ones, to not like ANY of them seems to not have a true appriciation of musical theatre.

Also: are you familiar with carousel? That was the first "classic" show that I really loved, and it made me "get" classic musicals to a degree.

The only ones of those I have any real experience with are My Fair Lady and Grease. My Fair Lady I like, a lot. Grease I don't like so much, because there's not really much of a plot, but, done right it can be a very fun show. We did it last year and had a good time with it.

Yeah! I agree it can be fun if done right, but isn't a great show within itself
