Little Red Audition, I know it's been discussed before but HHi all,
Long time reader, first time poster :-p
I have been obsessed with ITW for years now and have always wanted to play Little Red (I would love to play the Witch too because I'm so in love with Bernadette Peters, but I don't have the voice for it) and now finally a company near me is doing the show!
The age range listed is 18 - 25, I'm 23 but look a bit younger. I'm fairly short, 5"2 and a bit of a chubbo. Got short blonde hair, which I'm going to curl for the audition.
I have to sing I Know Things Now, which is fine because I know it like the back of my hand and most of the other people are learning it for the first time and are having problems with the timing. I also have to do a monologue, they suggested the coathanger monologue and I'm going with that.
So I also have to do another song for them. I'm wondering if it would be better to do a more operatic song to show off my voice (I have a kinda sweetish, little girl voice, though I can do nasal really well) or go with another Little Red type song to cement that in their minds.
Advice?
If I go something to show off my voice I would probably go with something from Jekyll and Hyde, Someone Like You, cos that's my best song. If I go with another Little Red song I'm thinking either I Want It Now from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (is the stage version of that different to the movie version? And does anyone know where I can get it? Someone mentioned a site where you can type in your credit card number and just print it from your computer???) or You Can Always Count On Me.
Does anyone have any advice for me? I will love you forever!

Hmm....bear in mind your opinion is what matters here the most, not the advice of someone online.
What I've always heard is that you shouldn't show up as a duplicate of the character you want because then if they have someone else for the role, they won't be able to see you as anyone else.
My advice is to find a non-little red like song(preferably Sondheim for Sondheim auditions!). If they think you are really good and a perfect Red, then they will probably know it when you do I Know Things Now.
As for choosing an audition song.....DO NOT do J+H. So unlike Sondheim. Plus it's poppyish and modern.
However, my advice is under the impression that you want Red, but you'll take what you get. Obviously if you have an all or nothing approach, then by all means, do a Little Redish song.
