Lily St. Regis (not answered in previous thread)Hi! I am comtemplating auditioning for Lily St. Regis in my community theatre's production in the spring. Someone had already asked a few questions, but I would also like to ask a few.
#1: How old is Lily typically supposed to be? (I'll be 21 when auditions roll around.)
#2: What is her vocal range/is she typically an excellent singer? (For example, I know she has been played in the films by two great singers - Peters & Chenoweth - but on the OBC she sounds pretty hilarious, similar to Lina Lamont in SITR or Kitty in Drowsy Chaperone.)
#3: Any ideas for audition songs? (I'm going to post this over on the audition board as well!)
Thanks in advance!

1. Anywhere from her early 20's to mid 30's.
2. I think she's a soprano. I'm pretty sure on that. I think her voice should sound good (leave it to Hannigan to do the bad singing), but she should look goofy and dumb while singing. Y'know... thinking of Drowsy Chaperone... "Show Off" might make a good audition song for Lily.

I Enjoy Being A Girl would be a good audition song. I forget what the song is from though.
As much as I hate this song, Popular from Wicked would also be a good one.

I Enjoy Being A Girl from Flower Drum Song is way too overdone. In my opinion, it is also too young for Lily and doesn't show a lot of range.

Y'know, on Stageagent they classify Lily as a soprano, but having just played the role, I really don't know what is so "soprano-y" about it. Most of Lily's singing is very mid-range.
Maybe because of the ditzy, airhead quality of the character voice, they automatically think "soprano"?
Anyway, I would think any voice type would work for Lily. Acting is far more crucial to the role than vocal ability. My advice would be to choose a song that really shows character and ability to act a song. Do you have any fun character pieces in your repertoire?

Maybe something by Adelaide from "guys and dolls" - acting is more important than singing for Lily as people have mentioned.
