Okay, I just saw a mediocre production of B&tB last night. I cut the cast alot of slack because most of 'em were very young. What really bugged me was the lighting.

Is it really necessary to BLIND your audience everytime there is a lighting change? They had these rotating canister lights on the first electric (which was hanging BELOW the teaser curtain) and everytime they rotated, sure enough, I was blinded. I felt bad for the little old ladies.

Is it really THAT difficult to avoid blinding folks?

It's not that difficult, so I'd say it was likely an artistic choice. "Rotating cannister lights"... what kind? Could you see the other electrics?

I could see the first two electrics, not sure if they had another behind that...

Don't know enough about lighting instruments to tell for sure- looked like a fresnel in shape but I could be very wrong about that.
