Lighting CrewAny one else do lighting? I am acting in my current play but at lunch and during free blocks and breaks I voluteer to help with lights. And I must say I love it. I'm learning a lot, after just a week. I've hung lights, adjusted lights, focused lights, did stuff on the light board, cut jells, filed jells, just about everything imaginable.
Plus, during school assemblies I'm am up in the genie fixing lights while every one else is having a political debate.

I'm a stage manager and lighting technician by trade, but I applaud you - I think it's incredibly valuable for performers to understand the other side of theatre! Although anyone who enjoys filing gels needs their head read...
(and are you up in the genie when there are people underneath you, or did I read that wrong?!)

no, i'm on stage and they are in the seating area of the auditorium. The only person bellow me is the teacher that is pushing me. I agree filing gels is awful, but if comes with the job. ha ha.

lighting was my first real non-acting job for a show. I love love doing it. Drives my teacher crazy, because when I direct myself or anybody else in a project I know exactly what our system is capable of, and I always use it's full potential. Which, is a programming nightmare. Haha. I do it myself, but the person that accidentally erases the cues by mistake shall rue the day they got inside the booth.
