LeFou Vrs. MauriceSo I was just casted for LeFou for my school's production of beauty and the Beast, but when I auditioned for Lefou, all my friends made me feel like crap saying that i was a crummy part and that I should try for something better like maurice as it was my senior year, as I was called back for both parts.
I haven't actually read the script yet, but in your humble opinion, who's part do you prefer, Lefou or Maurice?

Lefou. Definately. Lefou is way bigger than Maurice.

Lefou. He gets more songs, he's onstage more, he's more of a comic role than Maurice(although both can be pretty funny!) and I've seen a Lefou who has the hit of the show and got the most applause at the end. Ignore your friends and be proud of your being Lefou.
Here, I'll get you started on your applause:

Another note, going off what the last person said...
I played Lefou and it's a blast. If done right, you can really steal the show. I, myself, did get the second loudest applause (Loudest being Belle, of course. Silly 6 year old princess lovers.). It's a blast to play Lefou - espessially if you are close to your Gaston. Do you know your Gaston very well?

Definitely Lefou!! Ignore your friends if they're telling you that.

Maurice has a sucky song, boring acting... Seems to me like this part usually goes to an underclassman...
I would say Lefou is one of the best roles in the show. Very comedic, two great songs (one recognizable, and one that will be new to you if you don't know the stage version), and oftentimes villains are more fun to portray than "good guys."
Have fun with the show!

I always skip No Matter What on the OBCR. It's a really boring song.
But, keep in mind that Maurice does get to do a sweet fight scene with the wolves.
That's the only part I like about his character, though.
Well, I shouldn't say that. If you have an alright budget, his invention can be super cool. On Broadway, the invention was actually one of my favorite parts because they made it so sweet!

Yeah the guy playing Gaston is one of my best friends and I was able to act professionally with him over the summer

Lefou is awesome. As people have said above, he can definitely steal the show. I saw BatB last year and the Lefou was amazing; I think he really did get more applause than Belle. Plus he does indeed have better songs... I can't imagine why anyone would prefer Maurice, actually. Lol.

Maurice is a sweet old guy, but I really don't think he would ever get as much applause as Lefou. Your friends have probably never seen the stage show, and are more farmiliar with Belle's father from the movie. I have no doubt that you'll change their minds.

They're exactly the same besides the fact that he has a song in the show... that's it.

They are about the same size but i think that Lefou is more remembered and a better character.

Lefou.
Hands down.
Two of my good friends have played it.
Lefou is such a charsimatic player to watch. He has show-stealing potential. CHarm the audience. Make him loveable and you will be made

LeFou is a very sweet role- he has awesome comedic moments, great & memorable songs, and is a very easy role to charm the audience with. Just don't try to look constipated when you do the "think!" scene with Belle, that was the only thing I didn't like about the LeFou in our production.
(points to poll) No one has even voted for Maurice

I personally think Lefou by far. You get to do some stuff with Gaston and share some of the humour. And could steal the show! If done correctly of course.
Maurice is a good part too don't get me wrong. However Lefou has the appeal factor more, in my eyes
And don't let any of your friends get to you. What parts did they get? If it was chorus (and again chorus is good too) then maybe they are a little envious. Just thought I'd point that out.
Good luck!!! And well done for getting a role.

Maurice has so little stage time, plus in my opinion he's kind of a boring character. Lefou is funny and gets to do so much physical comedy.... and if the actor and the actor playing Gaston mesh well (which it seems like you do) it can be SOOOOO fun to watch

Well the friend who sort of started this the most auditoined for Beast and got the role of Cogsworth
Then another one of my friends got Babette
and another one got Lumiere...but it was a fluke as the only other guy who got a callback for Lumiere also got a callback for Gaston and the one played Gaston was the best for either role but he resembled more of Gaston...the other one did Be Our Guest in a Russian Accent for Christ's Sake!
I don't know if you can go by order of importance but I am glad I got the role that I did and I am greatly looking forwards to being able to play Lefou with Gaston as he is my best friend...and any advice you guys can give me, I'd be raelly grateful for. Thanks!
