Leading Player Costume?

SO I am currently the LEading Player in a production of Pippin, and we tried on costumes today. My costume is lilac and purple. Does this sound atrocious to anyone else, or is it just me? Have any other leading players worn anything other than black for their costume? I'm trying to convince my director that it makes me look like a big gay flower.

Yikes... purple? I'm currently doing Pippin as well and if they put our LP in purple I think I'd cry lol. I personally see him or her... in a red coat almost like a ring leader but not so cliche. If you've ever seen Panic! At The Disco's video for "I Write Sins Not Tragdeys" I'd see the LP dressed like that. Best of luck on convincing your director for the costume change!

That's weird... it's traditionally done in black, sometimes with red accents.

She Changed It! I am now wearing all black with a purple cumberbund!

Purple should only be used for CHarlamagne and when Pippin is briefly king. its the color of royalty.

I know, but that's the only way I could wear all black, so I have to deal. My director is a frigid bitch.

Purple is a royal color, not what you would think for LP.

The production I worked on, our LP was all in White, with a white Bowler hate and gloves, and then added some hints of color from time to time.

When I was LP in high school (Good Lord.....NINE years ago!) I wore a black tux with a pink ruffled shirt. Looked good, actually. I'm directing a production soon and think an ideal LP costume would be what Depp wore in the new Willy Wonka..... minus the top hat and cane. Loved that coat.

All of our players wore black jazz pants and a tight black shirt. Then we added weird sparkly stuff to our costumes. Our Lead Player had a sparkly tailed vest and was hilarious.

Well i like the whole concept of the Leading player being in a black tux with a tailed coat and a red vest underneath and if a girl a leo tard (black) with hose. Not a big purple fan

I i ever get to do the role I have a costume idea all planned.

long sleeved black midriff dance top with plunging neckline, a sexy knee length black skirt with a slit up to the waist ..the whole costume trimmed in gold.

The leading player should be dressed in all black. it shoul differ from costume
our eading player was excellent and she was beautiful fosse style. she only had one costume. And so should you the only other thing was for glory she had a cane and a bowlers hat.
Also there should be a black trench oat thing for magic to do and the finale

I'm a girl of course but I wore a black pinstriped blazer with matching feminine-like slacks and a low cut maroon shirt and some black kitten heeled shoes when I was the leading player.

Yeah, I really dont like the idea of purple, haha that would be quite funny though.

The Leading Player costume is a tricky one...

I'd say keep it all black but add in tones of blue, a dark blendy effect. I think it would look nice and suggest that any blueness and anything bright about him is slowly fading into black.
