Last Minute Les Mis AuditionSo YAGMCB was canceled which kind of pisses me off because i purposely didn't audition for any community theaters or anything like that for a summer show because rehearsals would conflict. So I spent all of tonight look everywhere for any place that still had auditions for the summer and I managed to find one youth theater (ages 13-19) that still had auditions coming up in two weeks. So this is actually probably the most competitive youth theater in my area and from what i've heard it's really hard to get into but I want to give it a shot because they're doing Les Miserables which is one of my favorite shows of all time. So I have to scramble to get an audition song together and i obviously don't have time to learn a new song so these are some songs that I sang in recital a month ago and they are definitely all performance ready. So which one do you think would be the best for Les Mis?
Not for the life of me- Thoroughly Modern Millie
Love Don't Turn Away- 110 in the Shade
On the Steps of the Palace- Into the Woods
Duets and trios that i could maybe just sing my part for:
A Man and a Woman- 110 in the Shade
Suddenly Seymour- LSOH
How the other half lives- TMM
Marry the Man Today- Guys and Dolls
Lets Walk- LitP
Poor Child- The Wild Party
Skid Row- LSOH
The Picture Show- Parade
I know some of these wouldn't work at all. I'm just letting you know everything I have to choose from. thanks for your help!

I would probably sing the song from Millie. Steps of the palace is Sondheim, so not suitable really and 110 in the shade is a classic musical, so also not really so good. Suddenly Seymour from LSOH could also work if you sing it "Les Mis" style. The Picture show might be a good second song if they ask for two.

If you're going for Mme T, in my opinion none of those songs really work out since they're young leading lady/ingenue songs and Mme T does not fit into that type. The best thing would be to find something funny and easy to learn. Do you know "When You're Good to Mama" from Chicago at all? That came to my head as an easy song to learn that works perfectly for that character. Little Girls from Annie would work too. My other idea would be maybe to do your part of "How the other half lives" or "Skid Row"but do it in a very bitter, sarcastic manner. That might work too. I know you're pressed for time, so if you feel really comfortable with the songs you listed, I say do those. I just did this role with the most competitive youth type (ages 13-21 and over 200 people auditioned) theatre in my area and one of the girls called back sang 'Astonishing'. If you have the right look and vocal sound the directors might call you back even if the song isn't perfectly perfect for the character.

Yeah that's what i'm hoping. I'm definitely type cast for those sorts of roles so i think i have the best shot at it. I'd really be fine with any part though, i don't think it's the type of place where you specifically audition for a certain character but i'm not sure. Anyways my auditions the 28th eee

Thanks in advance,

Eponine - you want to show a confident modern belt but not rocky/poppy. Songs from about 1970's plus - what have you got in your rep that suits that?
I agree with one of the above posters that if you are going for Mdm Thernadier that none of the songs mentioned work as they are all ingenue songs.
