La Cage Aux Folles!

I might be casted in this musical in the summer! Has anyone else done it, If I get casted as a cagelle I am going to lose 30-40 lbs--because I need to look good in a dress.... lol.
Salome

"cast" not "casted".
superdave

you are such a prude.

no. I'm just trying to help. so you don'y get laughed at irl.

"Casted" is pretty bad. Just roll with it and move on. I would love to do La Cage again. Hopefully you already shave your legs, otherwise it's a trial the first time.

TRWolf was in it within the last couple of years, ask him for some advice. I did it about 12 years ago and had great fun.

Salome, I know its "cast"-- I write fast when I am on the forums and sometimes make errors. No consequence though, Although I hate correction...tisk, tisk...

This experience will definitely be more different than anything I have ever done. I am aprrehensive telling My Mom and Dad what the show is about..and what I may be doing... uggh.

What is the show about?

In brief, it is the story of a gay couple who happily run a gay club with wonderful musical numbers (and costumes!!). Their little world is turned upside down when their son comes home and announces he is going to marry a conservative politician's daughter, and they decide to go "straight" to meet him. It is the musical forerunner to "The Birdcage" - it was on Broadway in the late 70s, and was made into a movie that won several awards, nominated for three Oscars. If you don't know the story from "The Birdcage", Google it...or better yet, watch it. Nathan Lane and Robin Williams are ADORABLE in this film. The original is better, but has subtitles.

^ Thanks. Smile I think I saw something about it on broadway.com ages ago.
Salome

La Cage is such an innocent musical. its very traditional. it just happens to involve a gay couple.

Fun show though..first show i ever saw on broadway whe I was a kid.
lola

Sorry to digress a little. A theatre in my area is using half male cagelles and half female. Is this the way it was traditionally done? I've never seen the show before.
Salome

usually 2 or 3 of them are female.

It wasn't the late 70's when it was on Broadway. It was in the early 80's. It hit Broadway in 1983, I believe...Correct, me if I am wrong.

I was cast! I am a townsperson. And we have an amazing cast. We have two girls that are Cagelles. The Rest of them are men.... It is going to be a blast.
TR_Wolf

Yes, I was in it a couple of years ago as Les Cagelles leader Phaedra.

Who are you playing?

But yes, it's an extremely fun show to both watch and partake in. But just be yourself, dont lose 40 pounds (2 stone? No!), I played a big fat Phaedra, mainly as Im a big fat guy, and it worked very well, and I got a lot of applause and cheering!

I have pics if you want any, and can offer any advice in the show if you'd like to PM me.
TheWitch

That's the way it was done in the original broadway production but they changed it to all male in the revival.

Update:

I am playing a small part as Hercule in the cast. I have a few cameos in the show, I get to sing a solo in "Best of Times". I have a feeling as one of our cagelles are dropping out-- I am going to have to get comfortable in heels. I cross my fingers.

Its not that I dont want to play a Cagelle--I'd like to, it's just I SUCK AT DANCING. And I dont think I'd be very good...case in point, why the director casted me as the role he did. It has opened some doors, The Musical Director--heard me sing and is going to get me to sing with some pretty "big wigs" in town.

So if anything La Cage has introduced me to those people.
