L.A.'s Pantages production

Hey, I'm thinking about going to the production here in Los Angeles, which opens in February. I'm new to the show, though I love many of its tunes, and I'm pretty new to musical theatre in general. So, does anybody know where I can purchase cheaper, discounted tickets? Ebay looks like a good start, but then I'd have to wait for the tix to be mailed and pay extra shipping. The links advertised on this forum here take me to ticket websites, but they're pretty expensive.

Any suggestions? What is the average price for a ticket, anyway? Anybody else going? Thanks in advance!

Yes, I am going! March 18, which is funny because it's right after St. Patrick's Day. Ticketmaster is always good, although it's entirely possible they're sold out by now. I suggest listening to the soundtrack before seeing the show, and getting a better idea of the plot. It's so much more meaningful.

I love your banner, by the way!

One problem with Not that Girl's suggestion- the soundtrack has been specifically made so it wont reveal any plot details. The music is brilliant, dont get me wrong, but it has had quite a bit of dialogue removed, and even has a song missing, which was heavily plot oriantated, and dialogue ridden.
Another thing I found about the soudntrack is that Idina at the time wasnt as good, vocally, as some of the other ladies who have played the roles. Im not saying shes bad, hell no, but shes amazing now, and Eden is one of the better Elphabas vocally. It put me off slightly. Also, I believe that Megan's Glinda is different to Kristens. You dont want to get attached to performers who you are not going to see. It alienated you slightly. Believe me- I had to deal with getting used to an English Glinda after only hearing American ones.

Nice idea, Not that Girl, but there really isnt any plot to get from the soundtrack. I would save some songs as a surprise for the theatre. Have a brilliant time when it does open, though! Eden and Megan are some of the best, I am really quite envious!

There is no soundtrack.

It's a cast recording.

I just remembered something I clean forgot to add. Seeing as it is a different topic, Im putting this in a seperate post.

Broadway, I believe do a front row 'lottery'. Now, I dont know the details, I can barely remember any facts, but I believe is a lottery for, possibly cheep tickets, which might be on the front row.
In London, they do something which I have never seen before, of other theatres. They sell front row tickets for half the top price, on the day of the performance. Sure, you have to be queueing 3 hours before the box office opens to be in with a chance of getting a ticket, but it is an amazing offer.

What I am saying is that Wicked have a history of quite weird ticket sales, where they do front row and/or cheep tickets, usually on the day. It is fairly likely that in LA, they will do the same thing. Check the offiial website, the bottom small print under the tickets section, and I would check among various boards (I can help with that) to check what type of deal they are doing, and estimated times for when to arive/how long it will take/ what offers you can expect. I dont know anything about you, but in London, students with student IDs can get half price prime seats on the day, which have yet to be sold full price. I don t know if this would apply to you, but its worth knowing.

I can't give you any advice. I am one of those silly people that just buys the ticket at the Box Office. I will be there though - I can't wait!
Hopefully it will redeem the Pantages for me, I was there to see Cats this year and I walked out. Someone should have warned me about that play...

With the exception of the lottery, the cheapest way to get tickets is to buy the tix directly from the box office. It eliminates the Ticketmaster surcharges.

I should clarify, I meant listening to the soundtrack in ADDITION to getting a better idea of the plot. However, if you want to be suprised during the show then by all means don't let it be spoiled for you!

And The Very Angry Woman, my apologies, is there a difference between a soundtrack and a cast recording? I'm a bit of a theatre newbie Smile

Soundtrack = TV and movies

Cast recording = musical theatre, and, I suppose, opera

P.S. Your sig images are obscenely huge.
Not that Girl

Oh, alright thanks for clearing that up.
And what size would be considered standard for signatures in this forum?
The Very Angry Woman

Smaller than 170 pixels high. (Then again, as long as this place doesn't end up looking like the Il Divo forum, maybe I should just count my blessings.)
Not that Girl

Okay, it is now 168 pixels high. Thank you so much for your help!

DEFINITELY do not heavily research the plot. When I finally convinced my mom to get tickets for Wicked for me last year, I had memorized every word of the OCR but only had a fairly limited idea of the plot. There are certain elements of the plot that aren't picked up by the OCR. I cannot explain how glad I am they weren't spoiled. Trust me, the way it fits together you do NOT want it spoiled.
Not that Girl

Well to each their own, I suppose. I hadn't researched the plot when I saw it, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had. The foreshadowing is much more interesting that way. It's up to you, but whether you do research or not, you'll definitely enjoy it Very Happy

Thank you all for all the advice and links! I don't know why I didn't research on ticketmaster.com first. I guess I assumed that Ebay would always be cheaper, but all the bidding racks up the prices, anyway.

Well, I perused ticketmaster.com and luckily there are still some spots open on a number of nights. I am actually quite surprised that it's not all sold out. I was just about to purchase 2 tix, but I think I'll make a stop at the box office to skimp on the surcharges, as one of you suggested.

Another question: Do you prefer orchestra or mezzanine seating? I've looked at their seating chart but I'm still quite confused. Mezzanine is just like a balcony, no? Yes, I'm still a newbie to the theater! Embarassed

Not really.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mezzanine_%28architecture%29

From top to bottom, most theatres are configured like this:
balcony
mezzanine
orchestra

If there's a loge section, it's between mezzanine and orchestra and is usually only a few rows (sometimes it's actually a lower level part OF the mezzanine, like at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco).

Sometimes the balcony has two levels. If so, then the seating chart will indicate it as such.
DefyGravityFan

I saw it from the Mezzanine of the Pantages when it was here in 2005. They were great seats! I think if you're going to see it in orchestra, then see it within the front 1/2, otherwise, you'll be sitting under the mezzanine/balcony anyway, making Mezzanine seats better anyway. (I've seen lots of shows in the Pantages, starting from 1979, which is why I say this!)

We have Mezzanine seats again this time around on March 3!!!!
EponinesRain

I'm proudly announcing that I just bought tickets for the Sunday, March 25th performance! I have Mezzanine row H seats, which isn't too shabby, I guess.

Yay, I'm so excited. It'll be my second musical, ever! Thanks again for all the info and clarification, everyone.
SapphireNight

Well done! Enjoy it, Im sure you will! (I'll probably repeat this nearer March 25th aswell Laughing )
