Kristin Chenoweth in Ugly Betty

Wow! Kristin (Original Glinda) will be in Ugly Betty's season finale. Can't wait to see this episode which I heard would be very surprising and defining!

The writing team of UB obviously has an obsession with Broadway. After all, the setting is New York. So far it has mentioned Wicked, Hairspray, etc already. Patti Lupone also guested as Marc's (Michael Urie) mum.

God I am obsessed with Ugly Betty...
wicked_boy

We kinda talked about this a couple weeks back.

But cool! Kristin is a Legend! I loved her in Bewitched.
Salome

Kristen is NOT a legend for god's sake!..she has been famous less than 10 years! a legend is someone like Merman,Maty Martin,Alfred Drake, or living ones such as Angela Lansbury,Carol Channing, or John Cullum..someone who has created iconic roles and has been part of the broadway story for decades and decades even Bernadette Peters,George Hearn and Mandy Patinkin are too young to be considered legends.
Angel-of-Music*

maybe he didnt mean it literally. i call everything a legend Very Happy
Salome

legend is not a word to throw around lightly. there are very few theatrical legends left. the true legends deserve thr respect.
Angel-of-Music*

i didnt mean a theatrical legend. i just meant i use the word legend a lot.

anywho chill, its just a word. if he thinks she's a legend to him then she is. its his opinion.
Salome

if he thinks that he is wrong.
PappyCat

Salome, you have a way about derailing topics, specifically in this forum.

Anyway, I'm jazzed for the UB finale. I love the show! It's so dramatastic and soap-operay, but still so awesome!

just coz you dont think she's a legend doesnt mean she isnt in his eyes. no popinion is wrong. just different.

Salome, I agree with you.
jazzygirlsings

I can't stand her voice...She sounds like a chipmunk.

I think I'll just have to mute my TV when she appears...LOL!
wicked_boy

Somebody takes things to seriously......

legend (FAME)
someone or something very famous and admired, usually because of their ability in a particular area:
Jazz legend, Ella Fitzgerald, once sang in this bar.

legendary
very famous and admired or spoken about:
He became editor of the legendary Irish journal 'The Bell'.
The British are legendary (= well known) for their incompetence with languages.

Says nothing about having to be on Broadway longer than 10 years.

Oh, and about "iconic" roles. Isn't Glinda an icon for many young girls?
Salome

no glinda is pop culture. and come on..seriously Cheno is far from a legend.

even Carol Channing said 20 years ago when co-starring with Mary Martin "Martin is a legend..i'm a veteran".
wicked_boy

I think we can all decide on who is a legend in our own eyes.

Not what Salome says.

No offense.
Da_Dark_Dude

i think both Kristen and Idina are legends.

i mean come on when wicked is still on broadway in like 30 years we'll still b talking about them and saying how fantastic they are
Salome

I don't think that shows you like are that good. Where as you don't think shows we like are that good.

All a matter of opinion.
PappyCat

Salome, I don't understand why you come to the Wicked board. I mean, I'm all for discussion, and I don't think you have to be a fan to post on a message board, but responding to people's opinions with "LMFAO god you can't be serious" isn't promoting discussion, it isn't stating anything...It's just belittling someone for an opinion they posted on a very appropriate board to post that opinion. Do you come to these boards just the heckle?

Here Here!

(Is that how it's spelled?)
Salome

no. i dont but some comments are seriously laughable. even cheno's
biggest fans amongst the critics would call her a legend. come on now.
music is my life!!!

a legend is personal but they're both BROADWAY legends!!!

settled?

Nothing would not have to be settled if Salome hadn't gone off one one again about how she's always right.

There's a rule against personal attacks...I don't think that was very nice...
pish123c

Regarding the whole legend thing:

Kristin Chenoweth is not a legend in my eyes. She is a great actress and singer, yes, but no legend.

I guarantee you if you walked onto the street and asked people who were not wicked fans who kristen chenoweth is, they wouldn't know.

Sorry, but I feel Salome just comes over to the Wicked boards to insult the show. And when ever she states something she always imply's (sp?) that she is correct.
Bookworm

Back to the topic, that sounds great. I can't wait to see it.. should be interesting!

Everybody thinks they are correct. That's why there are forums! So people can discuss why they may or may not like a show. That's why differing opinions make life more interesting!

Even though she doesn't like it, she's entitled to post here just as much as those who hate Wicked.

Yes, she can be brash and oftentimes strongly opinionated, but she's been here for years and if you know her well, it's part of why we love her and part of what annoys us about her at times! One thing remains...she DOES know a HECK of a lot about musical theatre, from its origins to the present. You could actually probably learn quite a bit from her...She's the number one expert here on Cole Porter and Noel Coward...

Granted, you guys aren't going to change each other's minds, but even so, nobody shouldn't stoop to personal attacks...
Angel-of-Music*

i know its not my argument but although she knows a lot about the subject which i dont dispute because she obviously has a heck of a lot more experince in shows than myself. but i dont think that is an excuse to stand for everyone elses opinions being belittled.

It's salome...you gotta take it with a grain of salt. She's been like this for 4 years now...

It's just the way she is...

Plus...things around here used to be A LOT worse and Salome's not near as bad as that sort of behavior was...

In fact, I think she does it because much of the time, she is well-versed in the works of a certain composer etc. and by the time she's made the comparisons, she has a well-informed opinion that it's not so-and-so's best work...(Like Wicked)

A lot of the people who love this stuff are relatively new to musical theatre...
Salome

music is my life!!! wrote:

they arent breoadway legends. they are nowhere near Merman,Drake,Harrison,Martib,Lansbury etc in terms of fame, credentials, iconic roles,etc..

even talent wise (and i do like Idina usually) they need more versatility and longestivity.

if you have survived at the top of your game for decades you are a legend. right now they are "whats happening" not "whats legendary".
Angel-of-Music*

theyre legends to us theatre newbies though Very Happy

I know you weren't talking to me, but just because Kristin and Idina were the original stars of one of your favorite musicals does not make them legends.

They both have done some good stuff, but they are still newbies themselves.
Angel-of-Music*

1. wicked is not one of my favourite musicals
2. i never said they wre a legend to you, but to me they are.
pish123c

sorry, i made a judgement.
i just assumed since your signature and avatar featured it, it was one of your favorites.
Angel-of-Music*

lol i like it. but i havent even seen the full thing yet so i cant really put it in my faves Very Happy
dancing_poonie

i know this may not be the case (referring to the original post)....but in certain people's vocabularies (in Australia for example) the word legend does not always have the connotation that Salome is debating the validity of. eg. "My friend Sam is such a legend". It can just mean someone who is highly regarded, not necessarily an icon who has stood the test of time.

And yes I agree, in my mind Kristin and Idina probably shouldn't be regarded as "legends" yet(the almighty, as awesome as Carol Channing version), but who says that people can't think of them that way if they want to? Not to mention that people may have a different definition of the word legend than others, and surely thats ok as well?
sherwills

My gosh! What have I done? I just tried to open a forum about Kristin in Ugly Betty and I seemed to have opened a can of worms.

I agree that everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion but maybe we've been reading to deep on the word legend here.

Could be a case of semantics. It could've just meant "legend" in a Mike Myers sort of expression.

Anyways, Salome.. you're a legend! Mr. Green
Salome

well if Cheno is a legend, then I certainly am! Wink
qpidsangel

So who caught the finale?

I love me some cheno
PappyCat

She was pretty good last night, pretty cute. Kinda annoyingly bubbly, but I guess that was the point of her character.
qpidsangel

...all her characters...
Salome

which is why i can't stand the chick.
wicked_boy

It hasn't aired over here yet, I will tell you all when I see her.
What Is This Feeling?

LOl, I love Salome. I'm not getting into my opinions on this, but following this thread was amusing lol. Did anyone ever here Kristen's 'Taylor, the Latae Boy?
wickedboy

What Is This Feeling?,
I've listened to Kristen's "Taylor, the Latte Boy" I thought it was hilarious! I gotta say, both she and Idina seem to be, very funny women, wouldn't it be funny if they both did stand-up comedy? I could so see that... and it would be hilarious!
What Is This Feeling?

oh its soooo cute!

Bringm me java
Bring me Joy
Oh Taylor the Latte Boy, I love him, I love him, I love him!

I like her, shes cute! And shes old enough to be my Mom!
thirteen

I saw it, and I thought it was cute.
I agree about all her characters being bubbly though.
I liked it.

That whole episode was good.
My favorite line was, "Did Angela Lansbury eat a pizza bagel before the opening of Sweeney Todd!?"

Would've been funnier if it had been meat pies.
shakalakababy

Laughing I love taylor the latte boy and I adore Kristen Chenoweth (and I could care less what anyone says about her). Anyways I didn't catch it because I don't really watch ugly betty so i didn't know about it but i'm sorry i missed it.
sherwills

sounded like a fun episode. We Londoners haven't seen the finale yet and I can't wait.

Got two more episodes and I think both will be on E4 next week: "A Tree Grows in Guadalajara" and "East Side Story".

Go Betty Go!
xsophiex

Yes i've seen the adverts! Looks great. She starts the advert off with something like "you can have what you've always wanted" and that funny e4 man says something afterwards. I've seen the end of the last episode on youtube, but i want to watch it all because i want to see what happens with her. Personally i love her, but i too think she needs more experience to be a "legend." Legend sounds funny to me now becuase here in Liverpool everyone says it if they think someone's great.

Much Love,
Soph xx

Can you imagine Cheno when she's like 55... still trying to sound like a squeeky Valley Girl whilst playing Norma Desmond in Sunset Blvd? lol
