Kissing

Hi!
I am currently in my school's eight grade Shakespeare play called "The Taming of the Shrew." I have to not only do my first stage kiss, but my first kiss in general. I am Katharina who has to kiss Petruchio 3 times. The guy that I have to kiss is someone that I've liked for many years and I am getting nervous about the situation. I don't know what to do! I'm not even sure if he likes me! I need your advice on how to kiss and make this situation more comfortable. Thanks!

I apologize for my cheesiness, but thats the cutest thing I've ever heard. I know exactly how you feel. I used to perform all the time with this guy who i was head over heels with, and let me tell you it could get pretty nerve racking.

I think the best way to make the situation more comfortable is to try not to make a big deal about it. Before kissing him, relax, take deep breaths and even scream into a pillow if you have to. The more comfortable you are, the less awkward the situation will be. Also try to remember that you two are kissing because its part of the show and because you have to.

(but maybe if you want something to come out of this, you could try talking to him about ;D)

I't's ok to sound cheesy! I forgive you. I'm new at this so I don't really care what you say as long as it will help me. Thank you so much for the advice! I will try to relax as best I can! It should help.

I think the best thing you can do is talk about it with him beforehand in a less-than serious manner. I'm exactly your age and in your grade, so I know how awkward stage kisses can be. Try to make off-hand jokes about it. Don't let him know how much it bothers you.

If all else fails, ask your director for some visual tricks to get around actually kissing him.

Pretending he's, oh, I don't know, Orlando Bloom or Patrick Dempsey won't hurt either.

LOL

tee hee hee... I will totally pretend he is Orlando Bloom. Life will be made so much easier! Very Happy

Forgive me but aahh, this is the cutest thing. But don't worry, just kiss him, it'll be great. And don't worry about turning red or anything, you won't be the only one.

Reminds me of Nicole Kidman. She got her first kiss onstage when she was performing in Spring Awakening as a young girl. Cool

What?

Anyways...one night backstage at rehearsal, make sure there is no one else around, just lay a big one on him and then say, "There, now the akwardness is over!"
Luc

^Even if Sweeney is joking, I'm not. Seriously, it works.
Sweeney Hyde

Not joking...it seriously does work in most cases...if he is an open person, as I'm assuming he is, he will not only be stupified and very happy with it, but he could very potentially be worrying about the same situation and thus would be releaved as well.
