Kiss Me, Kate - Overdone?

My community theatre group has never done Kiss Me, Kate before, and I would love to direct a version of it in the future. I have heard people say, though, that it is overdone, and that people really need to stop doing it. Does anyone agree with this? Aside from the occasional local high school production popping up every couple of years, no one ever seems to do it. And compared to some other Cole Porter shows (
Anything Goes much?), it seems to not be that often. Am I all wet, or should I take these comments with a grain of salt and push for a production?

While I have your attention, do you think this show is too limiting in the number of roles that it offers? Now, before I get blasted for not doing my homework, let me add that I have seen the movie, and I'm quite familiar with the cast recording. I have also researched the show on several sources, but nothing can compare with human opinion. If you were auditioning for me, and you got placed in the ensemble, would it be a disappointing show to do?

I really don't think it is overdone... at least not in our neck of the woods. In fact, I have only ever seen one stage production of this show, and that was years ago.
Personally, I adore "Kiss Me Kate" and have always wanted to do it. It has a lot of male roles. Perhaps your people are objecting to the more limited large female roles? It does offer good ensemble numbers...

I'd say if you are really interested in the show, then go on and push for it!

I love Kiss Me Kate; I've only ever heard of one version being done in these here parts, so I wouldn't say it's over done, either... I think it would be totally fun even in the ensemble.
So, I pretty much agree with Melindaisy. Go for it if ya want to!!
