The female roles are minimal, there being 3 female roles (the other female roles are chorus/dancers). These are;
Lilli Vanessi/Kate Minola; High soprano, sings several songs including 'I Hate Men' (hilarious song, especially when well done), 'So In Love' (stunningly beautiful song, written by Cole Porter for his dying wife), and Wunderbar (duet with the male lead, Fred). Lilli is a movie 'star' who has returned to the theatre for her ex-husband's new show, a musical re-write of Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew'. In this, she plays Kate. She is usually played by someone in their late twenties/early thirties.
Lois lane/Bianca Minola; Alto, sings in several songs and has 2 solos, the hilarious 'Always True to You', in whichshe sings about how even though she is a bit of a slapper, she still loves her boyfriend (Bill Calhoun!), and the pretty 'Why Can't You Behave?', in which she is singing to Bill about his gambling addiction and how she feels like she means little to him. In the 'Shrew' parts of the show, she plays Bianca, sister to Kate, and she sings in the fantastic song 'Tom, Dick, or Harry', singing and scatting her way through the number about how she wants to marry so much, she would take anyone. She is in her early/mid Twenties. The songs she sings, as mentioned before, are (in order);
*Another Op'nin, Another Show (as chorus)
*Why Can't You Behave? (Solo, Bill sings one line)
*We Open In Venice (As chorus with a solo line)
*Tom, Dick, or Harry (As part of a quartet, with exciting 4 part harmony, haha)
*Kiss Me Kate (Act one finale, as chorus)
*Always True To You (solo)
*Kiss Me Kate (Shrew finale)
*Brush Up Your Shakespeare (Finale, as chorus)
These are based on how we did them in my Societies show, though we pretty much stuckto the original music
Hattie; Soprano, sings in several sings and opens the show with the wonderful 'Another Op'ning, Another Show'. She is Lilli's dresser, a put-upon young woman who only features in the back-stage part of the show. She is about the same age as Bianca, in her early to mid twenties. (though she is reffered to as 'girl', so she can be played as younger.
When my University did the show a couple fo months ago, the person who played Kate was 26, and both Bianca and Hattie were played by 18 year old girls.
