Ok-What!?
Casting a celebrity is one thing, but her!? |

Ok... wow... um. First Hayley Duf in Hairspray. Now this?
What's next? Miley Cyrus as Glinda in Wicked? I really don't think that Kelly could do it.... and usually I say cast who can pull it off... I just don't think she can |

I think Kelly might do the show some good. Bring in people to see it who wouldn't normally buy a ticket.
The Ensemble and other principles are so fine, there's not way the show will be ruined. 10 years and counting. I truly believe it will eventually be the longest running show on broadway. Roger On The Aisle |

Not a good example. Haylie Duff was perfectly suited for her role, and not half-bad as Amber. |

Chicago constantly casts celebrities, though. So it's not a matter of "Bringing in fans who normally wouldn't see the show..." because there are always usually somewhat talented celebrities in the role. What talent has Kelly ever shown us? And please...stop sounding like an advertisment. |

Yes, there have been some horrible miscasts over the years, but, the bottom line is, the show is still going, and people still have work, and that is truly a rarity in Broadway Theatre. It's a testament to the strength of the piece, when mediocre stunt stars are cast and the show, as a whole, doesn't collapse under the weight of mediocrity. I'm not saying Paris Hilton should be cast, (and who knows that she hasn't been considered) but if she was, the power of that ensemble would still be the glue that holds this show together.
What's worse...a brilliantly staged revival of a visionary musical, or another rehash of a Hollywood movie comedy? Producers are obviously in the business to make money. But where truly great work dies a painful death at the box office due to no 'names' in the cast, (Journey's End, anyone?) I can't blame the Weisslers for keeping the show going with 'interesting' casting. Especially because it's an example of 'life imitates art'...it speaks to what the whole show is about...celebrity and all its trappings. Sorry if my enthusiasm for good old fashioned entertainment sounds like an advertisement. I just grow weary of the sniping on these types of boards, especially when they get personal. What has Kelly Osborne done as an "entertainer"? This is like Paris Hilton being cast in a show... someone who's never done anything productive except a few bad albums and who's only acting experience is a sucky reality show who gets breaks others will kill for because of her father's name.
There are so many actresses out there who have loved theatre their whole lives, who have worked their butts off throughout their theatrical careers, who really have a passion for the art form that should get the part over someone who probably only knows Chicago because of the movie. I know the theatre world is never fair, but this must be one of its greater injustices... |

Couldn't echo my thoughts more Eponine. I did a double take when I read the article on a website. It's appalling. |

Oh, God, no.
What's next, Debbie Gibson as Eponine?...oh wait, that already happened...er, what's next, Leonardo DiCaprio reciting Shakespeare?...oh wait, that already happened... *contemplates bashing my head against a wall* |

Again, bad example. Debbie in Les Miz wasn't stunt-casting. The show didn't need publicity stunts at that time, she was suited for the role, and got it by auditioning. Much like the aforementioned example of Haylie in Hairspray, these two performers were fine choices for their roles. |

I agree I had to look a the article twice because I thought it wasn't real. Like you said there are girls out there who would kill to do this like people who are teying to break into it like Leanne Jones is with the London Hairspray production and she just gets it. Disgusting. |
