Just after Sarah is killed...

The girl that sings that whole solo in the beginning of "Til we Reach the Day" just after Sarah dies does she have a name or is she in the chorus what is her story?

Sarah's Friend.

In the book, she goes with the family to Atlantic City to be an excuse why they are traveling with a black child, but that part's not in the musical.

^Actually, it is in the musical, though it is never said explicitly. Our Sarah's Friend was kicked out a couple weeks before tech week, so we had a Harlem Man singing the solo, and a Harlem Woman in the Atlantic City scene.

So Sarah's friend. Does she have lines and is that song all she does vocally?
dantheman

I've never seen the musical so I don't know about lines, but that's the only song she sings in. However, if she does go to Atlantic City, then that would mean that she would double as a housekeeper for the family. There might be a few lines to go along with that.

No she doesn't have lines. She is usually a member of the Harlem Ensemble and does stuff as part of that, at least in the first act. In the second act she is typically nanny to Coalhouse Jr., so can't do all the Harlem scenes.

There aren't many Harlem scenes in Act 2, though, are there?

Yes, there are. But several of them typically involve only the men (such as the library, and "He wanted to Say").

She does have one line "None, whatsoever, Coalhouse" before Gettin' Ready Rag, and then the solo, but that's it. However, it is perfectly possible for her to still be in all the Act II Harlem scenes.

I am playing Sarahs Friend in my school show!!! Yea I was wondering about the whole thing with atlantic city in act 2. Cause it said she was in the sceans but she didn't talks so i was like what is going on lol.

Yeah, she's mostly standing there, holding the baby and taking Edgar by the hand. Stuff like that.

Our Sarah's Friend was kind of confused as to what she was supposed to do in the scenes in the second act. She hadn't read the book, and I did. What I told her to do in those scenes was imply a supportive relationship with Mother and be the nanny to the children and the housekeeper.

I dunno, that was just my interpretation of her character Smile
