Jumping on the belated-intro-post bandwagon

Considerably belated, since I have less than a week until my four-year forum anniversary. I guess when I joined, I figured I'd just post and let my reputation speak for itself instead of going through the introductions. But I'll give in to the attention-seeking impulse just the once, since it seems to be a law of forums that everybody has the right to create one thread that is All About Them, and that thread is usually the intro post.

So. American, 21 years old, computer-science major at Smith College, currently studying abroad in Paris for a year. Shameless Les Mis nerd, fond of musicals that make little kids cry, classical mezzo but not really a performer. Also fond of opera, French Romanticism, fanfiction, historical linguistics, gloomy 80s goth music, and Victorian-inspired gothy clothing. Which sounds like a terribly pretentious list, but most of it is honest-to-god overenthusiastic geeky interest in weird things.

My username is from the chapter in Les Mis that contains Enjolras' death scene, "Oreste à jeun et Pylade ivre." I personally think "Orestes Sober and Pylades Drunk" would've been a better translation given the context, but it doesn't have the same ring, does it.

I don't post on the social board much except to toss in my two opinionated cents on debate threads, but I suppose most of you have seen me around at some point. So, hi. This is my belated intro thread. Should I run along back to the Les Mis board now?

Great idea, OF - your posts in the Les Mis board are always well thought-out, but I've never really gotten to know you. Smile

I know someone at Smith college, and one of my cousins is thinking of applying there. Welcome Smile Glad to finally "know" who you are! : )

Belated hello to you!

I kind of know you from the Les Mis board but I prefer to hang around rather than posting there, as I don't know enough about the show yet. So, hi!
