I'd heard of this... I wish I could see him in it... Alas. Miss Saigon is my favourite show... Though, as I've said before, I've never heard of John not being Black. Or maybe it's different in places other than America...
Or maybe I'm not a good fan of my favourite show... hmmm. |

I thought I read at dresscircle.co.uk that John P was the first ever white actor to play John.

Well good. I was worried that I just sucked as a Miss Saigon Fan (though, I'm not NEARLY as good a one as I am of CATS).
There's no reason John really HAS to be Black... it's never referenced or anything. That's just how it is. I like John... he sing Bui Doi. |

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but can I just put this Family Guy sound clip in here for anyone who hasn't heard it? Freakin' funny, this is. Miss Saigon |

I love when Family Guy rips on musicals... especially when they sing variations of songs...
IE, Stewie singing "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" from My Fair Lady in regards to Lois being away and that old guy singing "Somewhere That's Green" from Little Shop of Horrors And of course, that sound clip there, and in the episode where Brian goes to Vegas and the clip of Peter driving his car onto the CATS set is shown... man, Family Guy rocks. |

More sound clips there for anyone interested. "You!.... You are the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!" |

Actually the character John in Miss Saigon has been played by a white guy several times.
If i'm correct the original John was 'white'. That was Peter Polycarpou too, who played the last Growltiger in London. The lines 'Stop drooling white boy' is changed to 'stop drooling dream boy' when a white character plays it. Typically it's a black role, but it isn't always permanent. They do make exceptions. I will be seeing John as .. well.. John in January 2006. As well as the rest of the cast i havn't seen for a couple years now. Woooooh!! ~Lisa~ |

I'd just like to add that i saw Miss Saigon a few weeks ago with John in it and he was AMAZING! My boyfriend who'd previously slated him for being 'too good looking' in Cats was bowled over by his talent lol .. i had alot of fun poking fun at him afterwards. But yea the show was amazing!.. I really didn't expect the ending and it shocked me with the suddeness of it. John also was better in that show than he was when i saw him in Cats (i saw him in real life in Cats a few years ago before it closed)... |

Miss Saigon is here in Manchester with JP as John (easy role for him to get into, having matching names and all!), but annoyance is that I CANT AFFORD TO GO SEE IT!! Although I did see it in Liverpool a few months ago with an amazing John who went all Gospel with the high notes! |
