Jesus Christ Superstar

I've come up with nothing for this audition, I can usually come up with something for every other genre of MT but rock somewhat eludes me. I'm 19, a baritone and at a loss as to what to sing. The company I am auditioning for is a youth theatre so i'll be auditioning with people around my age (16-21).

help me?

You could try something from Rent, one of Mark or Rogers' songs.

Or, continuinig with the ALW theme; Rum Tum Tugger ^^ It is rocky, and written for a baritone (Ihave used it for auditions before)

Jesus Christ Superstar is a hard one. Judas and Jesus the leads go extremely high, so unless you're a strong tenor you won't be able to get these. Pilate, although classed as a Baritone, goes up to a G in Pilate & Christ, and a few A flats in Trial by Pilate, which are pretty harsh - and then theres Peter and Simon Zealotes, who also both sing pretty high, down to the other extreme of Caiphas who sings as low as anyone can go!

I would personal aim towards Pilate, whic his a great part and sing a high Baritone song like 'This is the Moment' which also goes up to about a G or 'Stars' form Les Mis. Or if you can get right down to the bottom notes go for Caiphas, and sing one of his songs (This Jesus Must Die) as i cant really think of anything that goes as low as he does in musical theatre

Thanks for you're help guys. I have a month and a half roughly to find a song and work it. So far I'm thinking of these...

Rum Tum Tugger - Cats
Another Pyramid - Aida
I'll Be Here - The Wild Party
Miracle of Miracles - Fiddler (I have been working on this for a while, which is why I'm adding this)
Gliding - Ragtime

Unfortunately I can't sing a song from a show, otherwise I'd sing King Herods song.

I'm sure there's more i can think of, but these are all i can come up with now.

Any comments?

Rum Tum Tugger, I win!

I think RTT is a great song, not only because I suggested it (Wink), but because it has a good range of notes and allows to shown emotion; well, smugness Very Happy

Wow I did JCS when I was like, ten. I was just in the group of children and i was picked up and sat on Jesus's lap, but it was my first experience with any kind of performing other than Christmas plays at my church. Such memories!

These are my friends from Sweeney Todd.

Well, you could always do "that other Biblical ALW show" and do something from Joseph. "Potiphar" would be fun, but requires a real connection with the accompanist since the tempo changes so much. "Close Every Door" is overdone. Maybe you could do "One More Angel" or "Those Canaan Days", though the latter really needs to be done with the French accent, which is not recommended for an audition in general (though I've used that very song, LOL).

Hmmm.

guys, this audition was over a year ago.

I sang Those Canaan Days for anyone who is insterested.
