Jennifer HollidayHi, I'm new to this forum, but I'm sure that you'll find my questions and comments enlightening (I'm sorry, that sounded a little conceited; I'm just very excited ). Anyway, I read somewhere that Jennifer Holliday (aka Broadway Effie) was displeased with not only Hudson's performance, but everyone's performance in the movie! First off, the movie and the performances within them were awesome. And even if Holliday was displeased, she has no right to judge because she's not Effie anymore! What do you guys think?

Well, I read it on Wikipedia; they're usually pretty accurate. Lemme know if you would like me to post a link.

I don't know. Wikipedia can be wrong. Everyone in my social studies class believed for a while that Patrick Henry was the 16th president of the US thanks to Wiki.
Anyway... Jennifer Holliday has a right to be mad that she wasn't invited to the premiere, but I think she's taking it too far. She was a great Effie, but I believe she got too in character.

Did everyone see Jennifer Holliday sing on the day of the oscars.
Like...did she grow retarded in the past 20 years?

I heard that Jennifer Holliday was upset that she wasn't asked to reprise her role in the movie... Sounds ridiculous because she is far too old, IMO. However, I'm sure that's just a stupid rumor started by an MT fan, lol. I hadn't heard that she hated the movie, though. I wonder why?

Jennifer Hudson thanked her as an afterthought! She was walking away, and than turned back around! lol.
I'm not saying that this means anything, but it wasn't like, a big thanks.

i dunno, i just think jennifer holiday is a major B for going on TV to sing "and I'm telling you" on Jennifer Hudson's night. I mean come on. Jennifer Holiday had her turn, give some one else a chance. she should be excited that the role she created is gaining so much acclaim. she's acting ridiculous.

That was so for show. From what I've heard about Holliday's involvement-or lack thereof- in the movie, Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Holliday probably aren't that close friends. I think the fact that she thanked her as an after-thought pretty much brought to light all that drama. If she had not mentioned her, no one would have noticed. I really think Holliday's attitude may have pressured Jennifer Hudson to thank her like that.
Jennifer Holliday played Effie for too long. The character seems to be rubbing off on her.

she stated she wanted a cameo in the movie as deena's mom, and not play effie. i dont think she's that delusioned.

Oh, hadn't heard that actually. That makes a lot more sense. Yeah, I guess I don't see why they couldn't've let her play it... Definitely don't think she was entitled to it or anything, though.

Isn't it possible that Jennifer Hudson was so gobsmacked when she won the Oscar that she was more than a little distracted? She was a mess in her acceptance speech! I don't think it means anything more than the fact that she was extremely emotional and couldn't put her thoughts into words eloquently. And why shouldn't she be? After all, she had just won an award that many perceive to be the pinnacle of recognition - - in the film industry!

Jennifer Holiday is a total diva bitch. Her reputation was destroyed years ago. She fought with Michael Bennett during the entire creation of "Dreamgirls" and nobody wants to work with her.
That being said, she did basically create the role of Effie. Effie was not supposed to appear in the second act of the show. Jennifer fought like hell to be brought back in. She quit and was fired twice. Eventually she was brought back in the second act. Originally they had Effie wind up as a home nurse for an old rich white woman (to be played by Estelle Getty)!!

well, i didnt like hudson either so i woudnt blame holliday.
That one song that hudson sang was SO annoying. i cant remember the name but the one where she comes into the theatre.. i think it's "I'm telling you" maybe? idk, but yeah, she was like screaming that entire song. i was literally covering my ears it was so painful. I dont dislike her voice though, i thought she was great in "One Night Only" but the rest was just awful and she overacted to the point where i wanted Effie to fail.
there was my rant for the day.

haha! seriously! when i was reading this forum i was thinking "man, she must have been majorly typecast"
but i do see how she would be upset. Showbiz is a cut-throat business and you gotta do whatever you can do to keep yourself alive. If I totally created a character and someone came and took my ideas and won an award, i would probably be pissed too. We also have to keep in mind that the media blows everything out of proportion and we don't know the full story behind what is going on, so I wouldn't judge anyone here.
