Jemima Range

I asked something similar on the Auditions board, but only got one response, so I hope you won't get mad if I ask it here Embarassed ...what is Jemima's range?

Also...I am auditioning for Cats this summer and would like to go out for Jemima. I would like to sing high enough to show my range will fit (I'm a lyrical soprano and can sing alto), and I'd like to show off my range too. However, I have no idea what song I'd like to sing. Maybe something from Evita or West Side Story? (But it has to be up-tempo. It's a requirement.)

Suggestions, and answers, are appreciated!

Thanks!

Well...my favourite Evita song is High Flying, Adored. I know it's written for a guy but who cares about that ^_~ and it'll definetely show off a soprano range. It's not THAT uptempo but it's not that slow either. That's my suggestion. ^-^

Good luck for your audition!!

I've heard that the song "Aldonza" from "Man of La Mancha" is quite rangy, but I've never heard the song myself, so I really couldn't tell you what type of song it is.

I would suggest "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story. That song goes pretty high (at least in the version I have) and is quite upbeat. "Bless the Lord" from Gospell is another upbeat, high-range song that comes to mind.

As far as range goes, if you're a lyrical soprano Jemima's notes probably won't seem that high for you. I'm a lyrical soprano as well, and I don't have any trouble hitting the notes. I'm not sure about the actual highest note she has to sing...maybe the G two octaves above middle C? Probably not any higher than that.

Surely not that high!!!! I'm pretty sure Jemima's highest note is C, above middle C. G's waaay high!

If you're a lyrical soprano you should have no problems singing Jemima's part. I believe that the highest that she sings is about middle of the octave (E/F) the C above middle C. I seem to remember that from the sheet music but I don't have it with me to check. You still should be fine singing that, I typically sing alto but can hit those notes and if you're a soprano you should have no problem.

"I Feel Pretty" wouldn't be a bad song at all to sing. (Even though I think West Side Story is the bane of my existance and you have no idea how much it pains me to say that Smile)

Here's what was posted for Sillabub (Jemima's counterpart in some productions) on catsmusical.com for the Berlin auditions:

SILLABUB: Strong dancer, no taller than 5'4'', strong head voice but must
be youthful and very pure in timbre, comfortable to F

Don't know if that helps at all. I know nothing about singing. Laughing

Thanks, everyone. Smile I am comfortable with what has been posted about Jemima's range, and have been thinking about Another Suitcase in Another Hall and I Feel Pretty...but, again, any other suggestions would be great!

EDIT: Oh, and I'm considering Aldonza, too. (It is rangy enough...)

Very Happy Just wanted to say thanks, again. I've decided on I Feel Pretty, and it's sounding really good (to me, anyway...haha). You all rock!
