Jekyll and Hyde AuditionI have an audition for Jekyll and Hyde coming up in a couple of months, and, as it is my favorite musical, I am quite eager to get a part. I will be auditioning for the role of Emma, and my main concern is chooing an appropriate song.
I am currently considering 'How Could I Ever Know?' from the Secret Garden, however, I'm worried that it might sound a bit to heavy for Emma. Do you think this is an appropriate piece to use, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

I don't know the show very well- What's that character's range?
I thought it was more soprano...
If so, I recommend "Come Home" from Allegro or
"What Good Would the Moon Be?" from Street Scene.
(both can be found in volume 1 of the Singers Musical Theater Anthology Soprano)

Emma ranges from about Mezzo-High Soprano. 'How Could I Ever Know' is a soprano piece, however, as I said, I felt that it was a bit to heavy for the character. I'll take a look at the songs you suggested, as I've honestly never heard them before.
Thanks for the help!

Actually I think How Could I Ever Know is a good choice because the music style of secret garden is somewhat similar to Jekyll and Hyde. What Good Would the Moon Be is not the best audition song although it is BEAUTIFUL because its very difficult to play and it could be a disaster to sing with an accompanist who you havn't rehearsed it with, its also not really the right style. But How Could I Ever Know the Lilly part is pretty boring, so what I've done with the song when I've used it before is I get the whole score (most libraries have it) and do the duet part because it has that really high money note. It will take some marking in the music...Becuase you will have to sing the guy part and octave up in a few places to make the phrases make sence. But its really not all that complicated and it makes for a much more impressive song.

Thanks for the tips seeemilysing. You are right about Lilly's part being fairly boring. Its the second half that makes the song, and it has that high note. I'm going to take your advice and simply do some marking. Thanks again!
