Well dear its all about Dynamic's ^_-
you'll probably want to start by creating some volume (or decrease volume, depending on where and what you're singing.) There are a few terms to committ to memory in dynamics:
"Crescendo" - this is the term for a gradual increase in volume on a sustained note, or throughout a sung phrase.
"Decrescendo" - This refers to a gradual decrease in volume.
*Both of these effects require alot of breath support and control - usually singing quietly will require more support from your abdomenal area, as you need to compress your air flow so as not to let too much volume out at a given time.
"Messa di Voce" - this is the term (literally translated from italian to "Place the Voice") used to describe the slow crescendo-to-decrescendo effect that one might hear on a long, sustained note. (soft-loud-soft.) - this is a beautiful effect for your zenith song points - and takes ALOTALOTALOT of muscle conditioning and control in the tummy and pelvic area. But, executed correctly, nothing compares to the expression that one can give to a song through this technique.
Excersizes for Dynamic Experiment:
1. For Crescendo: Sing a long, sustained note on "oooh" (pronounced as in the word Mode) - let this note sit in your comfie range, chest voice or lower middle area. Gradually let your stomache and pelvic muscles move in an upward, allowing more air pressure through your vocal chords. Make sure to relax your throat so that yor vocal folds don't clamp shut above the air stream. Send the tone (air) to your 'mask' area, letting it 'ring' in the face and upper head areas. Let the tone grow fuller and louder, while maintaining the control in your lower body region. Don't back off of the tone; end the note at its loudest point.
- make sure to take this slow, or eles you can really hurt yourself belting the wrong way, keep everything very open and do not push with your throat, remember to use you abdomenal area to support the sound. i think your best bet is to see a teacher who can work with one on a personal level to make you comfortable and see what you might be doing wrong.
