JCS vocal score questionsHey guys,I have the JCS vocal score (the full show in piano/vocal format, with seperate staves for all of the characters and instrumental cues in the accompaniment) and had a question. Why, in some vocal scores in various parts (such as during "The Last Supper"'s "argument" with Jesus and Judas and "What's the Buzz?"), does the piano accompaniment dissapear and get replaced with "x-ed out" note symbols and just chord names as opposed to actual accompaniment? It's strange. Also, a question, more to board moderators...is sheet music sharing considered okay on this board, or is it a topic best avoided? Thanks! Joseph joe.bardsley@gmail.com |

My guess would be that those sections are suggested places to improvise, but I've never seen the licensed score physically so I could be wrong here. But it sounds like that's most likely what it is.
This isn't one of the boards I'm assigned to, but the general rule on sharing sheet music here is that we try to avoid it when possible. |

Not having seen the score (though I would love a copy almost as much as I love Zubin Varla) I'm not certain, but I remember a discussion with my friend who has seen it saying there were loads of places where the singer has to improvise in it. |

I just checked my vocal score and the symbols you are talking about look like this . / . It is a dot, followed by a slash and another dot. That is the musical symbol that means you repeat what was played in the previous measure. It is a common symbol in manuscript music because it saves the person writing out the parts the trouble of writing the same meausure twice. |
