JCS on Speed (The OBCR)

I bought the Original Broadway Cast Recording the other day, And I like it, but it sounds like they sped up tempo...which sounds really funny to me. Listen to "Heaven on Their Minds" it goes A LOT faster. And Superstar, on speed again. Plus Ben Vereen, takes way too much liberty in some of the songs.

But he was a good Judas, none the less.

I was raised on this album. It's the first record I ever heard as a small child.

Vereen rocks. Now, I feel he had a little trouble hitting the notes, but does he ever give his best shot.

Fenholt is my favourite Jesus. I just wish he didn't turn on JCS a few years later.

Elliman is a goddess.

Dennen... is the reason why I opened my mouth and started singing. He is a constant inspiration, and I value his friendship.

Jethro is the best Annas. Danny Zolli is the only one I can compare him to.

Bingham is an awesome Caiaphas. I love how he sings the role.

Tempos are great as far as I am concerned.

Andy.

I read Fenholts Testimony book, and No where in the book, does he codemn JCS, or says it was something he regretted doing. In fact, his Christian Wife, thought it was a wonderful thing that he was doing it, that is what I gathered from the book. Fenholt is okay, but Neeley is still a better singer...in my opinion.

There is a reason why the tempi are so fast. It was decided that the broadway cast record would be a single record instead of a double LP like the concept recording. Records were limited to a maximum of 40-45 minutes total to be divided over the two sides of the record. To fit more songs onto the limited space available, the songs were speed up to take up less time. This was a common practice with Broadway show recordings of the 50's, 60's and 70's.

I also love the jazz arrangements on the album. Fantastic stuff.

Randall's Island were a great pit band for the show. I wonder oif they're still around?

You wouldn't happen to have a more current recording of him in a certin concert, would you? Wink

I love this recording. Great orchestrations, great singers...

I just wish they had a full version out. GET FENHOLT TO RECORD A NEW GETHSEMANE!

No, not yet. I'd love to get a copy of the show, though.

When I get Mr. Fenholt on the phone, I will ask him to record it again. Be patient, my child.

I'm going to eat his liver if he doesn't record it. Be sure to let him know. Wink

HAHAHA...

Watch out Fenholt may get on TBN and threaten you with an exocrcist... He did get that restraining order from that Pagan Temple in WI.

When did this allegedly happen?

Andy.
