Jacob BrentAm I the only person dissapointed that he was in the Pro-Shot? Yes, he is a good dancer, but don't you think there are people out here who could have done it much better? I'm not saying jacobs a bad dancers. All I'm saying is, there are poeple who could have done it better.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this.....

I think Jacob Brent was a good choice for the film.

From what I've gathered, Gillian Lynn thought/thinks that Jacob Brent was the best thing since sliced bread. I thought he was great in the film, good live. I have seen Misto's who I like better, but it's a matter of personal taste, I think. Guy Paul is right--someone is going to rip you (and probably me) a new one!

I really liked Jacob Brent in the film, and personally wish I could've seen him live. I think he was the best choice for the film.

Hi
I have seen Jacob both live and on stage- I was surprised how good his voice was, I also tried to get his autograph at the theatre but he blanked me! However one of the cast sort of wispered into my ear he was under a bit of pressure and had a bad day, next time round he was all smiles.
The qestion has to be who wanted Americans in the show in the first place, was it ALW, Gillian or someone else.
Look at some of the cast of the video
Veerle-Belgium
Fergus-Scottish
Aeva-Australian
Jacob, Ken and the Munk American
I think it was nice not to have an all British cast, I would also like to have seen more of an etnic mix, we had white and black people in the Video, there have been other races in this show why could they have more different faces?A very good Victoria was Yukko Kassinki who was oriental, I cannot spell her name but I saw her in Hamburg she was terrific.
Also quite a few of both the original cast of Cats of the London & Broadway shows are now sadly dead, could they have not have given them a mention? You can have all the best creators of a show but without the people on the stage, you have nothing.
In January next year it is the 20th anniverary of the death of the original London Bombalurina Geraldine Gardner.

Jacob Brent is a very good dancer, indeed. I think for a film he was good also because of his face expressions. On the screen that is very important for the close-ups, and probably Brent was attractive for the camera, I don't know. But of course I think that there are much better dancers than him and I prefer to keep them on theatre stage because the image you get there is the real life, you can see all the muscles working in every move, their grace... it feels as if you were in a ballet show.
Let's keep good faces for the telly and great bodies to real life!
By the way, Misto06 when I saw your clip of Mistoffelees on youtube I got amazed, really. And now I think you are much better dancer than Brent. And your body is much more stilized than his.
Misto, don't worry I won't let any Misto-fan rip you into pieces... or if they do then I'll be there with a broom just in case... Anyone would like to save me too in case they rip me apart for this??

I'll save you! Mistocopat to the rescue!
I think that Jacob was a good choice. However, I do wish that in the movie they had kept more of Misto's spins. He does a heck of a lot more spins in the play.

Actually, I agree whole-heartedly with you. I dont think he was the best choice at all and have several other opinions on the matter that would probably get me whacked in the face with a frying pan.

Maybe Jacob Brent wasn't the absolute-best-of-all-living-actors choice for Mistoffolees, but I think he was at least good enough to be Misto in the video...though I've heard Fergus Logan was a very good Mistoffolees, and I think he would have been more interesting.

Then you must fit into this forum well.
(If, in face-to-face conversations, I said some of the things I've said on this forum, I would be whacked as well, only in the Mafia sense.)

I agree. I think Guy-Paul is a MUCH more impressive dancer (not that Jacob is bad), but I do like Jacob's overall look as Misto. To me, he makes a nice, young-ish (but not totally kitten) looking cat while Guy-Paul reminds me more an an adult cat.

Yeah I think it's not fair that they cut Misto's dance. Jacob does it well, too.
Of all the Mistos I've seen live (including Jacob whom I saw on Bway and in London), I think Jacob was the best in that role because he WAS Mistofelees. Campbell McKenzie I think by far was the strongest Misto dancer I've seen (look at his bio if you haven't seen him perform; his bio is spelled out in the execution of his moves on stage as Misto ) but what still makes me pick Jacob over him is that he's a good dancer AND he REALLY acted the part, especially when I saw him in London. He really put a lot into the character in so many ways, even to the tiniest detail, and that's why he's my favourite Misto/why I think he deserved the role. Granted, I don't doubt that there are lots of other people who could have been just as good or even better but just weren't discovered for whatever reason.... But among all the performers I've seen as Misto, I would have chosen Jacob for the video.

Yep. I can totally agree with you Smudge.
I think that Jacob is good in the film, but there are much better people in my opinion would have done it better, eg. Guy-Paul, or Fergus Logan. Honestly, you need tot see this guy. He has the strongest conjouring turn ever, and executes all his moves really well!

Hahaha! I was just stirring interest....
Oh, whilst we're talking about Misto's, did any of the UKers watch Cirque De Celebrite 2 weeks ago? One of the judges is Louis Spence (London 98(?) Misto). Well, he did a big dance section, it was amazing!

Yeeeeeeeeeeess, I agree, Fergus Logan!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3 If you watch his Tumblebrutus in the video, he is just incredible, beautiful dancer!!!!!! And so much elevation!!! I think he'd'a made a great Misto for the film <3 He doesn't lack the facial expressions and the acting skills either, if you watch Tumble, you'll find he is so adorable!!!!
^ Fergus Logan as Misto *squee*
Jacob Brent is pretty good too though. ^.^

I wish they had kept Jacob's turns in the video. He's got such great technique. I've had some ballet classes with him. He chased us across the floor once, because we weren't being "pedestrian" enough. ^.^
I love him though, he's such a sweet guy. I was lucky enough to see him playing Misto for the last time at North Short Music Theatre in Boston back in 2003. I haven't seen him in a couple years but I hear he's doing very well.

Our little show business world is smaller than everyone on the outside thinks. One of my friends ran into him on her way to work, she was like "that was jake..." He's around NY. I took class from him locally though through competitions.
He wanted us to not run like ballerinas and more like football players. It was humorous.

Ihappenedto catch thaton repeat on sky 3, the cheeky guy just nicked Misto's conjuring turn and passed it off as his own acrobatics! Very impressive tho.

Football players...that's hilarious!
Oh you are lucky to have been able to take ballet...
I'm planning to start next year if I can afford it.
I'd have to say I agree on Jacob Brent really acting the part,
especially when Old Deuteronomy comes back and he just jumps onto him!
I was laughing so hard when I saw it because I thought it was funny when that happened- and even harder when he started "licking" Old D's face. (A sign of affection obviously on Misto's part, but I found it really cute. )

To add onto what Ms. Magis was saying... he directs and teaches classes a LOT now, because he hasn't been getting a lot of work, just to be frank. He's all right as a director, but I find him very apathetic.
As a Mistoffelees, I find him very apathetic too... but he told me he was Mistoffelees in more productions than anyone else...or something to that effect... and thusly of course he was used in the video. He's a personal friend of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I'm with you here, Guy-Paul. Up until the video he'd only been on Bway, I believe. After the vid he was in London briefly and did the US Regional in '03. You, Guy-Paul had done three cities, Paris, London, and Amsterdam. Most recently, of course, was the UK Tour. Hmm...if he really said that I'd be intrigued as to where he got that idea? Being the 'friend' of ALW is the more likely reason.
Since I piped up, I suppose I'll add my very short two cents. I've seen three Misto's live, and Guy-Paul via video. Guy-Paul and Julius are my favorites. I did enjoy Jacob's interpretation, and I've heard the reason they took out the conjuring turn is that it "didn't look right on camera" - of which I can believe. Jacob is by no means my favorite Misto, but I suppose ALW and others had their reasons for picking him. There are many others I would have liked to see in different roles, but that's for the 'dream cast' thread. I can't lower myself to say whether or not they made the best pick, because I haven't seen every Misto, and I never saw Jacob live. The producers made a lot of idiotic choices with the video (the cast notwithstanding...I mean other choices)...so I'm not about to belittle the cast.

I've seen the show live three times and I have to say that the best performer I saw was the reigonal Misto, not the Tour. I didn't like either of the Tour Mistos particularly. The reigonal was a long time ago, though, so I don't know if I could say I liked him better than Jacob Brent. I remember liking him quite a lot. I can't remember his name for the life of me....the only name I remember was Joey Gyondola as Mungojerrie. It was the reigonal production in Lincolnshire, IL.
