Because... it's touring... which isn't a reason for it to close, but nevertheless. Plus Company is opening. You can't have two similar shows on Broadway.

I'm disappointed its closing so soon too. However there are quite a few revivals opening: A Chorus Line, Company (as mentioned) 110 In The Shade...
Its all about the turnover. They need to make room for new things-be it original shows or revivals. Rather then scrap it all together, they're sending it off on tour.

Company is similar to Sweeney Todd?
As for Sweeney Todd closing, I guess either it finished a limited run or ticket sales fell below a certain break-even point.
I know most people on this board embrace musical theater as an art but it is in fact a business. Unless some level of government creates an Endowment for Musical Theater, we can expect the box office to decide what shows continue to run.

I also noticed it was not doing that hot in the ticket deparment. I gotta stand in line to get tickets, from Times Square, the second weekend I'm there!
