why!!!!!!!!????????

Sad

Because... it's touring... which isn't a reason for it to close, but nevertheless. Plus Company is opening. You can't have two similar shows on Broadway.

I'm disappointed its closing so soon too. However there are quite a few revivals opening: A Chorus Line, Company (as mentioned) 110 In The Shade...

Its all about the turnover. They need to make room for new things-be it original shows or revivals. Rather then scrap it all together, they're sending it off on tour.

Company is similar to Sweeney Todd?

As for Sweeney Todd closing, I guess either it finished a limited run or ticket sales fell below a certain break-even point.

I know most people on this board embrace musical theater as an art but it is in fact a business. Unless some level of government creates an Endowment for Musical Theater, we can expect the box office to decide what shows continue to run.

Well, they're both Sondheim shows (which doesn't matter), they're both directed by John Doyle, and they both are staged similarly having the actors function as an orchestra.

I also noticed it was not doing that hot in the ticket deparment. I gotta stand in line to get tickets, from Times Square, the second weekend I'm there!
