It is overdone?

Hello!
Iīm just new in this auditionīs topic (though you donīt believe me i didnīt know that singing a the phantom of the operaīs song was so overdone.

I think i can sing the music of the nigth an octave hogther Iīm soprano, would it be good or just Do i forget completely the phantom of the opera from my mind?

And a second quistion, is anything from andrew Lloyd webber overdone?

Number 1...it's definitely not a good idea to sing anything from Phantom of the Opera

Number 2...don't go into an audition "gender confused." If you are going ti sing a song from Phantom, at least pick one sung by a female. Never ever EVER sing a song that is meant to be sung by a person of the opposite gender unless -1- it's not for a musical theatre audition...ie a choir or such or -2- you're trying out for a drag show. All directors i've worked with really look down on singing a song written for the opposite sex.

In my experience, Andrew Lloyd Webber is extremely over done, so try to steer clear of him (and Sondheim for that matter)

Most of Andrew Llyod Weber's stuff is overdone. I would pick and chose when to sing one of his songs.

Obviously though, if you are auditioning for an ALW show then auditioning with a ALW song makes sense.

I think the big problem with Phantom is not that it is overdone but that the style of music does not match that of many other shows, so using it in an audition doesn't usually show you off well.

Of Andrew Lloyd Webber's shows I would say the following you definitely shouldn't use for an audition: Cats, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph...Dreamcoat, The Phantom of the Opera, Starlight Express, and probably also Sunset Boulevard though I'm less sure on that one.

I wouldn't worry too much about anything from Tell Me on a Sunday, Song & Dance, Aspects of Love, By Jeeves, Whistle Down the Wind, The Beautiful Game, The Likes Of Us or The Woman in White being overdone (though that doesn't mean I'm recommending using songs from them for auditions).
