Hope this helpsHi, I'm new too. Its nice to see that someone else is new to the site. Personally I don't think that there is enough variety, since most musicals in London are either owned by The Really Useful Group (Andrew Lloyd Webber) or Mackintosh (Cameron Mackintosh) and Mackintosh, although amazing, is usually based around a particular event in history, Miss Saigon was based on the Vietnam War and Les Miserables the French Revolution. This is not to say, however, that these are not enjoyable. Both are particular faves of mine but we need more musicals that are suitable for children. Young children get bored easily and are guaranteed not to sit through a performance of Les Miserables without making a fuss, nor Phantom, they'll just get scared. Wicked is popular for children despite being recommended for eight-upwards, and Hairspray is bright and colourful, pleasing to the eye. We need more shows like the greatly missed Beauty and the Beast and perhaps another Disney musical is needed, such as Aladdin?
Hope I've helped you out. Would it be possible to ask which A Level you are studying? I'm on a BTEC National in Performing Arts Musical Theatre.
